Burglaries on the rise; 2 city residents are latest victims
It is the Christmas season and there’s reason to be cautious because the number of robberies are on the increase. And two residents of the city became the recent victims of burglary and up to news time no arrests have been made. The first incident occurred yesterday at around five in the evening when forty-nine year old Leroy Reid of East Collet Canal told police he stepped out of his house to his yard, leaving his front door open. And when he returned five minutes later, to his dismay, someone had entered his house and stolen his jewelry and a black bag containing seven thousand, three hundred dollars in cash. According to Reid, the black bag was on his bed and among the jewelry stolen were a fourteen carat gold bracelet, a fourteen carat gold chain and a gold plated wrist watch.
The second incident occurred between four Saturday evening and nine-thirty Monday morning. Fifty-eight year old Elsy Dyer reported that her house was burglarized while she was away this weekend and she lost close to twelve thousand dollars in an assortment of articles including jewelry, a computer, four cell phones and five thousand dollars in cash. Police are advising the public to be careful during the holiday period in particular when handling large sums of money.
