Marine Parade is the new site for robberies

There were two robberies on Marine Parade this past Monday and in one of them a victim was raped. The twenty-two year old female was walking along with a co-worker at around eleven-fifteen p.m. and they were accosted by three males. One of the assailants, armed with a firearm, demanded money from the two and in fear the young lady handed over a cellular phone valued at eight hundred dollars and a small amount of cash. Her co-worker also gave up his phone along with his wallet which contained a hundred and fifty dollars cash and his personal documents. The co-worker tried to ward off the three robbers but was overpowered and the armed man took the female a few feet away and had sex with her against her will before fleeing the scene.

Earlier in the day, Ben Houghton, a British National originally from Helen Merseyside England, was also robbed at gunpoint while he walked on Marine Parade. It was twelve forty-five in the afternoon when two men approached him; one of them brandishing a handgun. The unarmed culprit searched Houghton’s pockets and relieved him of a hundred and fifty dollars in cash and bag containing his personal documents among other items. Shortly after the incident police detained Lancelot Flowers who was found in possession of a nine millimeter pistol with eight live rounds of ammunition along with the items stolen from Houghton. Flowers is expected to be charged with Robbery and Possession of a Firearm without a gun License. Last Wednesday, a tourist was also robbed by two culprits who got away in a speedboat in the area of the lighthouse.

Does this mean that Belize City will be void of tourists? From the airport, to the Cayes….

This is just prove that the crime situation is really out of control and if Prime Minister Barrow don’t step to the plate the tourism industry in Belize is going to be affected which will translate to less jobs for our Belizean Citizens.

Lets face is people, Belize City is the crime capital in this country there is no such thing as “the new site for robberies”. It’s not since today that people have been robbed while walking that route in Belize City, its been happening on a daily basis but people are reluctant to report it to the police since nothing will come out of it anyways. I personally have been held up and robbed in that area already and i’m sure to hell i’m not going to be last. The police should step up partols in that area.

  7. Elgin Martinez says:

Lets stop blaming the Police and bring some pressure on our incompitent leaders. These underpayed Police Men can only do so much. The problem here is our system. We’ve got to start hanging these guys.Lets hang about two of them an evaluate the crime situation.

  8. c says:

    Talk about jumping to conclusion.
    Elgin Martinez,
I am from Belize and am afraid to go to Belize on vacation, the tourists are not to be blamed for the way Belize is today, we are all aware that the government is a bunch of idiots, and that is a fact.
There are no new crimes in Belize the crime wave has been going on for a long time; just recently the people are starting to see the light.
    Kind of too late really.
