Lawrence Lino sentenced for gun possession

Lawrence Lino

Lawrence Lino

A man who was found with a point twenty-two pistol has been found guilty of firearm and ammunition charges. Nineteen year old Lawrence Lino was caught around two forty-five on May seventh, 2009 by police on mobile patrol on the Southside of Belize City.  Police say that when Lino saw them, he began to sprint on his bicycle.  Cops caught up with him three blocks away and searched him and claimed they found the gun loaded with two live rounds of point twenty-two ammunitions in his pocket.  In court Lino testified that he had just found the gun on the Northern Highway and that he was taking it to the police station.  But Magistrate Edd Usher did not buy the story and sentenced Lino to two years imprisonment. During the trial, a gun specialist testified that the point twenty-two pistol was initially a six chamber pistol but that it was modified to an eight chamber pistol.  Lino was given two years for the gun possession and two years for the ammunition but the sentences will run concurrently, which means he will only serve two years.

hmmm gun specialist huh… They should have included the brand because if it was a Smith and Wesson .22 revolver they make them with eight “8” chambers… Considering that most revolvers come with only 6 chambers its possible that this “gun specialist” thought that was the case…. I cannot imagine how one would go about making a six shot revolver into an eight shot revolver unlike a pistol where all is needed is a magazine change a revolver’s drum is a very precise part.

Should have gotten more years than two I’m sure if the police look into the gun crime is all over it.

fotoguy: I disagree with your statement Why would you give this man more than two years for a Burner and then make the murderer walk free. Two years is reasonable because then if this guy had any intentions of comitting a crime with this weapon then this crime have been prevented and hopefuly this young man learn from his mistake.

Maybe we need to higher some of these guys to do the Ballistics for the PoliceForce. Mr Barrow needs to higher these guys to teach Ballistics at the Police training School.
