Viewers agree to stiffer penalties for sexual exploitation of children

viewer poll (banner)On Tuesday night we asked our viewers if they support imposing stiffer penalties on offenders of sexual exploitation of children? Ninety eight percent of participants who polled said yes, and a mere two percent said no. On our blog one viewer said that in her view all murderers, and sex predators should he hung or given life without parole. The viewer thought they should be locked up and the key thrown away.  On IMS another viewer said, “Yes, I fully support stiffer penalties because if not, it could become a habit, like the killings that are taking place.” Visit our website to participate in the e-poll or send your responses using your SMART phones to 8668. You can also send an email with your comments to questions@channel5belize.com.

I like your poll questions that you all have made; however, i would like a question to be added at sometime about zoning. I don’t know how true this is but maybe you all can look into it. The word on the street is that the Ministry of Education is thinking about zoning schools. This seems for the most part wrong and would like to hear some feedback. The view is that government may seem to want to have children attend schools in their own area being that it will be close to their homes. This channel 5 – is bull I believe, many think there are ulterior motives involved. Number 1 from a sociological perspective this will only cause more division within our society. The North side is seen as the place of the elite and southside the place of the working class. Many of the Southside schools are underdeveloped and lack qualified and trained teachers. The North has literally some of the best academic performing schools in the country. Should not parents and children be able to choose their own schools as they wish to attend? Or is this keeping up with the north versus south crap trying to keep the status high over one another. Elite among the elite and poor among the poor?

YES ALL SEX PREDITORS SHOULD GO TO PRISON, MADE TO REPORT TO A PAROL BOARD FOR THE REST OF THEIR LIVES. INSEST SHOULD BE A LIFE SENTENCE OTHERWISE THE CHILD CAN NOT EXCAPE FROM THE SEXUAL ABUSE.

WHAT DOES BELIZE PLAN TO DO IN REGARDS TO RE-EDUCATING THE PARENTS OF YOUNG DAUGHTERS THAT ARE RAISED TO BELIEVE THE GREATEST ACHEVEMENT IN LIFE IS TO GET A WEALTHY TOURIST INTERESTED IN THEM. SO THAT IN THE FUTURE THEY CAN BLEED FROM THE TOURIST MONEY AND GIFTS. THIS GOES ON AND ON FOR YEARS. BELIZE HAS A BAD REPUTATION FOR THIS TYPE OF EXPLOITATION. FEMALES THAT HAVE A CHILD AND EXPLOITE MONEY FROM SEVERAL TOURIST FOR YEARS AND YEARS THAT THE CHILD THEY HAD BELONGS TO THEM.

THE PARENTS OF SEXUALLY EXPLOITED CHILDREN (MALE AND FEMALE) SHOULD GO TO PRISON. THE LACK OF CARE AND CONCERN BY AN ADULT PARENT SHOULD BE A CIME, ALSO.

  3. Another Concerned Citizen says:

Hanging needs to be implemented b/c ppl in jail are living better than the people that are on the outside. There is more concern about their rehabilitation…when there should be concern for putting programs into place that will allow young men and women to not to go prison in the first place. People who are on death row are using up valuable resources that could be used to improve school systems, feeding programs and medical programs that are desperately needed. GOB should stop waste money and Colby Foundation should make more constructive use of their time and money.

Instead of feeding these criminals with the tax payer’s money. Why not donate the food the government is giving them to the needy families in Belize and have the loosers plant their own food.

  5. Yolanda Garcia says:

Yes, I agree 100% for these criminals to be punished harder. The law needs to deal with these type of individuals more strictly. For example once they have committed a sexual crime of some sort, they should be sentenced to life in prison and while in that prison should be getting whipped everyday or the best solution is castration. Belize needs to Educate the parents, who needs to educate their children about sexual abuse from very young.

  6. marlyn bennett cain says:

i think aslong as the person is guity yes by all mean 100% should he be punish to the limit, as miss yolanda said they should castrated, becoz they will spend few years in jail an when they get out they will go back an do the same daggan thing all over so hell,if u have to put them in jail for life or castrate they behind then i agree a hundred percent,it’s unfair for kids that are being molested to be afraid that one day the idiot might come back and get them all over again so belize gov.need to do some think major and fast,it’s a shame what our country came to,the law suck, who is there to protec our kids if the law don’t know how to handle deal with criminals, well hell some of them is the damn criminal so nuthin will get fix untill they are fix too.smh.

  7. Janet says:

I believe that persons who commit crimes such a maiming, murder, sex crimes and other serious crimes should be locked up and should never be allowed to see the light of day again. Many Belizeans have relatives or friends or maybe know someone who was maimed, killed or sexually assaulted. I for one have a grand uncle who was murdered a few years ago and to date no one has been arrested for the crime. I also have a brother who was stabbed in the neck at a friendly basketball game in Belmopan; the person who did this was arrested and it took almost two years for the trial to come up; he was released from prison much faster than he got in. To date these incidents still haunts me. I feel that for too long criminals are being given an easy ride. Maybe if the persons who commit these crimes are sentenced to hard labour or those who deserve hanging are hanged maybe those wanna be ‘bad boys/men’ will think twice. The reason crime is so high in Belize is because many of the criminals know that you spend less time behind bars to kill than to steal $5 or less from someone. It is about time the laws got stiffer, the people who would not like stiffer laws are the criminals. We too as parents, brothers, sisters, etc need to get more involved in our family lives, we should be our brothers keeper. If you are living a decent lifestyle try to assist or brothers or sisters by ensuring that a youth stays in school. What we need to realize is that for every child that stays in school is one less criminal on the streets.

  8. Francine Estrada says:

Most definately!!!!!!!!!! There is a lot of weak spots that Belize needs to improve on when it comes to sexual exploitation. For instance, if we look at the variety of young people that are on the street having no jobs and no education and feeling like there is no oppurtunity to get forward in life. These individual will somehow develop a very low selfesteem within them selves and will fine themselves taken advanges of! This entire government needs to be change,so that better law inforcement can be implimented. There is a lot being said, but so little being done!!!!! Parentss needs to be under a strick monitoring,to see how they taking care of there child.
