Gene Myvett ready for Centro Basket in Dominican Republic
July is only a short distance away when it comes to practice and preparation for Centro Basket. And while the B.B.F. is scouting players for the next tournament, one of the original team players which brought victory from the COCABA games is already in Belize. Gene Myvett, returned to the jewel to play in a local tournament. He attended today’s conference and weighed in on how the team can advance without the original players that brought home the silver less than a year ago.
Gene Myvett, silver winner, COCABA games
“I’m definitely open it, I definitely want all the guys back that were in Cancun but I’m not in charges, it’s not my decision. I’d love to have them back but whatever we have to do to keep moving forward as a team, I’m fine with it.”
Jose Sanchez
“There’s a possibility now that you will be facing current NBA players, past NBA players. It seems like a big challenge, are you ready?
Gene Myvett
“We’re all grown men, we all do the same, eat the same, sleep the same, wake up the same. It will be a great honour to compete against them if we get the opportunity to so it’s a big challenge but I mean there’s still pressure on us for us to play basketball that’s why we’re creating this team and bringing twelve guys together to play together.”
Jose Sanchez
“What was the reaction like after you won silver out there in Cancun and then to find out someone out there was saying you’re not a Belizean?”
Gene Myvett
“It was good to place second, we wanted to win it all but because of the calls and everything that was going on there, we just had to deal with it. But for them to say that we’re not Belizean, it was unbelievable. It was like someone telling you what you’re not, which is really hard to deal with. It was hard for us to take that in but Paul and the others they kept fighting for us and the attorneys and now we’re back on top.”
Jose Sanchez
“Next stop, Dominican Republic.”
Gene Myvett
“Yes, I can’t wait for coach Seroki to get us back into practice. I’m down here anyway playing in the senior league so you know I’m home.”
