Official stats say crime is down, but do you feel safe?
Figures released by the police say that crime is down. There are many who question the stats because of the continued spate of crimes, including murders, use of grenades and high powered weapons, among other violent crimes. The question is: Despite the official statistics that crime is down, do you feel that your personal safety is more at risk? Everyone knows that their statistic report on the decrease of crime is full of crop. Crop that is being fed by the head of the department to the people because they think that is what the people want to hear. It is a diversion so that the people will stop being so hyped about the crimes plaguing Belize right now.
The crime rate is not down; you are still a potential victim of crime, so keep looking over your shoulders.
Why is the media not contributing by having a public interview with the head of the department?
Where the proof that the crime rate is down, does this mean that the people just have to accept that report, even though people are being killed every day?
the report they published lists crimes only up to October. missing Nov-Dec.
that may be the reason for the alleged drop in crime. Has anybody noticed??
is too obvious crime is up. police release washed down numbers to make it look like they have the situation under control. They under-report crime. Is a FACT.
Is anybody going to do something?
unlikely.
soon everybody will need to carry a gun, only protection you’re gonna get in bze
These cops just want to feel that they have been doing their job so they are falsifying statistics to keep being ignorant and lazy. THE CRIME STARTS WITH THE POLICE!!!!!
There an easy explanation. People are so fed up with Police and government’s incompetence and corruption (murderers walking free, witness being killed, etc) that people just don’t report crimes anymore. Why bother? But that doesn’t mean that crime is down… CRIME IS UP!! and it’s gonna get worse with the current economy and cost of living.
PM Barrow this beautiful country is spiraling down but you are incapable of doing anything to stop it… DO SOMETHING FOR A CHANGE!!!
I believe that the official statistics are altered, reports misplaced or simply people refuse in some cases to even report the crime because of fear of death. How can we rely on the police department when the Head of the Ministry of Security himself is uneducated and lacks any training in his field, What is he doing? The ministry itself has had its budget cut, the department lacks necessary recources for example a proper crime lab. There are footprints, fingerprints and other possible dna evidence that can be used even though witnesses may refuse to go to court. How in the world can we reinstate capital punishment when we can bearly convict these criminals! Who in their right mind would ever feel safe in Belize? That Ministry is in need of DESPERATE REFORM starting with the removal of that undereducated minister and more investment in the pursuit of proper training, send some people away on scholarships to study the field. Well, these are only suggestions Mr. Perdomo as it seems that you can’t think very well.
Of course we do not feel safe. Here’s an idea: How about you pay the police officers according to how much arrests they make?! HA! Then we would see a steep rise in conviction. Although, considering how the situation is now, the police would probably start arresting innocent people if that were the case. I hurt for my country.
Come on, are we to actually believe a word of information that comes from the mouth of the comissioner of corrupt police? His statistical report is bogus and he knows it, the people knows it….who are they trying to fool??? Not me ofcourse…..am i supposed to feel safer just because he says crime is down?? Ha!. Like the late great Bob Marley once said…”…you can fool some people sometimes, but you can’t fool all the people all the time…” Mr. Jefferies report is doing quite the opposite from what he was intended it to do. Crime is rampant, we see it on the news everyday and we experience it first hand daily and there is no doubt about that. Mr. Jefferies, please don’t try to take the poeple of Belize for idiots.
It pains me to say this but, I considered moving to Belize for some thime. But with all the crime. It’s to out of control. Is it the same in San Pedro/ambergris caye.
