Ministry of National Security connects plane to drugs

plane 2It has been two weeks since the suspected drug plane was discovered submerged in waters south east of Northern Two Caye in the Lighthouse Reef atoll on April ninth. The evidence retrieved from the plane links it to Fort Lauderdale, Florida and the lanterns on the island indicate that the pilot was attempting a night landing. A body found floating in the sea the same weekend in the area with U.S. and Mexican currency. That person remains unidentified tonight. It has not been a case that the authorities have spoken out publically about, that is, until today. Carlos Perdomo, the Minister of National Security, says that it is not that the authorities were conspiring to keep it under wraps, but the media linked the plane, the body and the drugs floating in the sea at more or less at the same time that the police did.

Carlos Perdomo, Minister of National Security

“I think the issue with the plane, we did report it in the police report that we found the plane but we had to make connections to that plane to drugs because when we found the plane it was clean under the ground. Then before we found the plane we had found a body floating so the body floating was reported but it was not connected to any plane until two days after we found the plane so we started to put a connection from that body to the plane. Then when we found the plane we started to make investigations on the island and so forth and we found out more then another day later we found fourteen kilos or something floating in the sea. So it took the police about five days of events to put everything together so it was not like hiding anything, it’s just that we reported it piece meal the way we found it except that the press and the police began to put it together at the same time.”
