A student from Sadie Vernon Technical High School was recognized for making drastic changes to his lifestyle. Earlier this week Micah Goodin received the monthly certificate of recognition from Do the Right Thing, a program by the CYDP, for an essay he submitted in February. In the paper, Goodin speaks of the person he once was and the positive changes he has made in his life. News Five spoke to Goodin at Sadie Vernon today and he told us he is encouraging his peers to join him in doing the right thing.

“I came to win this do the right thing award because I was nominated by my school because I was the most valuable candidate because I changed my behavior and adjusted my attitudes to be a better person. My essay was basically about the person that I used to be and the things that I used to do negatively and how I changed it for the betterment of my family and friends and community.”

“What made you decide to make this change in your life?”

Micah Goodin

“I decided to make the change in my life because I realized that everything that I did was impacting those surrounding me.”

“And what is it like to get this kind of recognition for changing your life?”

Micah Goodin

“Actually I feel ecstatic that I was awarded and recognized for changing my attitude and adjusting my behavior. Yoh know.”

“And is it difficult to main this change being a young man your age and knowing what other young men your age are doing?”

Micah Goodin

“For me it is not difficult to maintain this change because I have the guidance that I need to continue on a positive road. Change is a process and during that process there were a lot of people that assisted in the molding of my character and I would like to thank all of them.”
