Former P.M. to be charged with Theft

The reports have been circulating for some time and we have declined to report what was mere speculation, but tonight News Five has reliably learnt that the former Prime Minister Said Musa will be charged tomorrow. The Director of Public Prosecutions, Cheryl-Lynn Branker-Tait has instructed the police to proceed with the arrest of both Musa and former government Minister Ralph Fonseca. Musa will first appear in the Belmopan police station and then in the Magistrate Court Thursday morning while Fonseca will be charged on Friday. News Five has learnt that both will be charged for Theft as it relates to the issue of the Venezuelan grant of ten million U.S. dollars provided to the past administration late last year. The monies have since been transferred back to government coffers by the Belize Bank which had received it to settle a debt with G.O.B. involving the Universal Health Service. Late last week, the former prime minister in a public statement said that in his view his actions were motivated by a desire to save a tertiary care health facility and that while the public may not agree with that decision, he did not commit a crime.
