Jamaicans were found off the coast of Mexico by Caribe Navigator
Both men were rescued thirty miles northeast of Chinchorro, off the coast of Mexico, by Caribe Navigator, a shipping vessel that was en route to Belize. Captain Steven Spence gave the details of their rescue.
Steven Spence, Captain, Caribe Navigator.
“Yesterday at about eleven o’clock Belizean time, April twenty-fifth, we observed a fishing vessel on the high seas, approximately thirty miles off Banco Chinchorro off Mexico. She was adrift and there was a crew member onboard waving to us. We ascertained that they required help and so we reduced our speed, turned around and went to their rescue.”

“Upon arriving at this vessel that was adrift for the past several weeks, what was the immediate reaction of these sailors?

“We realized it was a fishing vessel, we were not sure where they were from but she was not moving. She had no engine. One person was lying on the deck so he obviously needed help and there was one person on the stern waving. We spoke to the person who was waving, he told us that they were from Jamaica, they were fishermen and they had been missing since March the twentieth and basically they were lost. They did not know where they were. They had no food, no water and they required help.”
Both Anthony Hibberd and Jason Noble are hospitalized at the Belize Defense Force Medical Center at Price Barracks in Ladyville. Both men are expected to make a full recovery before departing to their home country.
