Water situation improves slightly at La Isla Bonita
Last month we reported on the water crisis that residents of San Pedro Town were experiencing. The problem started just before Easter and the Belize Water Services laid blame at the feet of its water supplier on the island, Consolidated Water Limited. Consolidated Water in turn claimed that many of its membranes were suddenly being clogged but the reason behind the problem was not known. Tests were taken and a development project called Sugar Caye near to the BWS site was suspected to be the cause for the water crisis. Environmental groups lashed out because while a representative of Sugar Caye says an environmental impact assessment was conducted, they were not aware of any, nor could they locate a copy. While the water pressure is said to still be low in the night time, it has improved a bit since last month. Today the BWS conducted water quality tests in six different areas in San Pedro to determine whether the level of chlorine was at an acceptable standard. Those tests are being analyzed. BWS says it conducts water quality testing every month on the island.
there was NO EIA, the Mayor signed ECPs without an EIA or LLES. The developer gave a “donation” to the town board 3 months before the ECP’s were signed…… we trust you to dig up the truth
