Crime spree continues with daylight shooting in the city
There was little violence reported in the city over the weekend, but before lunch today a shooting took place on Mahogany Street. Brian Yorke, who has had his own troubles with the law was shot in a foiled robbery attempt and is in critical condition at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. Police report that around eleven-fifteen this morning a delivery truck parked in front of A&M’s Store on Mahogany Street was approached by two would-be robbers, one of whom was armed with a handgun. During the robbery attempt Yorke, who was one of the assailants, was shot in the chest by an occupant of the vehicle. News Five spoke with Yorke’s sister outside of the K.H.M.H.

“Well I was home sitting, doing my hair. I got my little sister to do my hair and I got up, plugged in the phone and I said shit I hope nobody noh call me. By di time I sit down to do my hair my phone ring so my daughter run inna di room and get di phone. So when I ansa di phone my sista seh Janet I di run dah Karl Heusner right now. Ih seh come yoh bredda just got shot up. I didn’t get no information what happened, where did it take place. Right now I’m trying to get into the Karl Heusner. They are telling me that I cannot get in because visiting hours is until four o’clock and I think if dis man just get shot up I, as ih elder sista, suppose to si ah. At least give me wah break fi go een and si how di man stand so I think ih noh fair. So I di try get in now fi get questions and see what happened and put two and two together and know what happened, and where it take place and what caused di shooting yoh udnertsand?”

“Right about now, my husband told me that was on his chest and when I called my sister a while ago, came in here the doctor said that the bullet went through and through him so right now dehn got ah inna observation room and dehn have a upstairs dah surgical ward dealing with him and so on. But I want to see him; I need to see him.”
Belize City police are still looking for a second suspect in that robbery attempt.

Too bad, the parents’ don’t always deserve this kind of distress over their children behaviors’, some parents do try to make better kids, and sometimes the kids fail their parents.

violence only begets more violence. sad to see people now have to arm themselves to have some sort of protection, hopefully incidents of these types doesn’t create a ripple effect and robbers then start shooting before asking questions.
