Guatemalan woman now says she didn’t scam Social Security Board

Last week Tuesday we told you about a Guatemalan woman who claimed she has been living in Belize for over ten years and who police say tried to scam the Social Security Board through claims for a child she has in Belize. Well, that woman changed her plea from guilty to not guilty on three charges of Making a False Statutory Declaration to SSB. Twenty two year old Mirna Oliva Ramirez says she did not understand the charges when they were read to her. The woman also reportedly gave police a wrong name when they questioned her after the alleged incident. But while Ramirez claimed she did not understand the charges, she was provided a translator and at no time did she give the court any indication that she did not understand the charges. Her case was adjourned until June 23. And while she changed her plea to not guilty, more interesting is how she almost pulled off her scam. She first visited the Vital Statistics office on December 9, 2007 and made applications for two birth certificates in the name of Josef Santoya and Joseph Alexander Murrillo. She then went to the Social Security office and made applications for two social security cards for her baby in the above mention names. It was not until March 29 of this year, that Social Security Board caught up with her. This came after a report was made to the Board and the police by the child’s father, Larry Murrillo. Murillo reported that Ramirez has only one child. Ramirez is out on bail, which was granted last week. She will be represented by Hubert Elrington.
I am insulted that someone this stupid thinks that she can pull off a scam in Belize and get away it, not only that but now she is assuming that the Belizeans are all idiots for not being able to read her mind. So, now she is “not guilty”, what a bloody joke. Her change of plea is just a show to ensures that the ignorant Belizeans will be sufficiently anesthetized with lies so as not to be causing any trouble for her.
This woman is a waste of space, she should be forced to work and pay back all monies to the board, and this should help her gain the proper respect for our culture and traditions. If this does not work we can help her most by letting her rot in jail.
I agree with you, she did take us as fools despite that SSB was negligent, but I do not agrre with you that she is stupid, she was wise caz she is looking out for herself and took advantage of the weak system we have in Belize. She almost pulled off the scam not because SSB caught up with her but because her baby’s father made the report or else SSB would never have found out. Waste of space she is! but she is just another immigrant bettering her life and took the first oppurtunity to make it appear ligit, I bet you have a family in the US…waste of space there, unfortunatley their system is strong and does not provide oppurtunity for anyone to do such thing if it were weak your waste of space would do the same…Its us the fools not her……..think about it.
Yes i do believe that she should be punished with a jail sentence or deported back to her home country for trying to rip us off. It is a pity we aren’t this aggressive to the mangers and CEO that get away with this same crime at the SSB.
How was she able to apply for two birth certificates from Vital Statistics without showing proof of birth for two children. Something is wrong somewhere.
Government need to look into that.
I don’t really understand this, is Belize Gov’t giving WELFARE? because the father is the one that would have to pay child support. 2. How can she get birth certificate without presenting any documents that would lead her to get SSN/Passport. 3. To top it off you have A MINISTER IN GOV’T representing this WISE A….. HOW RIDICULOUS.
..like, the Government cares? they are way too busy working their own scams for millions of Dollars to worry about a few hundred. besides, it’s another smoke screen to keep our eyes off what they are doing!
same question i was about to ask like CONCERNED how she made two applications of birth certificates with no hospital pappers of the two kids and specifications. unless they are tweens according to her mind. our laws and should be scrutinized for all this errors being done. many people are getting away with things like these with no punishment.
what a shame, these guates think they can come in our country and do what they feel like do, do you think any belizean can over guatemala and do such crime, madas, we need to step up and do something about these sacking aliens, look at that face !!! laughing at us, well its time we how dem we dah no fool fools, make she pay back the money and and send her r… back over the border with a stamp on her face that say I AM NOT WELCOME IN BELIZE. Can you actually do that? claim from ssb for a child… i’ve paid social security for over 15 yrs and last year they took 2 months to give me a 200 dollar check. something doesnt sound right about this story..
It wasn’t her intent to mislead, it was th father who coatched her. As we(should) know, hispanic surnames, as well as the spelling of Chrisitan names ar different than th English custom The Belizan father was the “genius” behind this case of double dipping, Mirna is hardly in need of the pathetic two-bit payments thebankrupt so-called social services of Belize, it doesn’t pay worth a damn so it makes no sense that Belizans ar so jealous of it

This woman claims she is in the country for 10 years and cannot communicate in our language. That alone is disrespectful. It seems that she is not doing too bad as well with Hubert Elrington as her lawyer. Such a shame that those aliens can come into our country and squat on our lands while born Belizeans are struggling to survive
