Wilfred “Sedi” Elrington in Israel
We do not know if it represents a shift in foreign policy, but we are taken aback by the visit of Minister of Foreign Affairs, Wilfred Elrington to Israel. According to a release from the Embassy of Israel and not from the government of Belize, Elrington’s official visit is from May third to sixth. The release points out that “it is the first official visit of a Belizean Foreign Minister since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 1983”. And that is perhaps with good reason because it was policy that Belize supported both Israel and Palestine as independent states living side by side so that a visit to Israel would have to be followed by a visit to Palestine, that’s not the case. Last year in November, there was a hue and cry when it was announced that Belize had signed a visa waiver and agreements with Israel. The outcry was because Israel is known to have close ties with Guatemala and is reportedly one if it’s main suppliers of arms. By extension Israel is perceived to support Guatemala in the claim against Belize. Elrington met with the counterpart and as the picture shows, he also met with Prime Minister Shimon Perez. What is the significance of this visit is not known, but it is one that we will follow-up with Belmopan. And for a historical perspective Israel abstained in its vote for independence at the United Nations in 1981.

Israel is not a tourist destination, hasn’t been that way for many, many years. I find it ridiculous for Belize to support them when it would mean nothing to Israel if Guatemala actually succeeds to taking away Belize for themselves. Belize do not need any such close relationship with Israel.
“Sedi” visit was even kept a secret, something fishy is going on that is involving the politicians again. I cannot wait to hear from his own mouth what that visit was actually about, sit back and wait for all the lies to start dropping.
i’d rather be a mexican than a guatemalan IF they ever win this case of land despute. but really it raises eyebrows as why this trip was never told to the media or country when most diplomatic trips are always notified. israel is no country to play with this people are real warriors from biblical times and we should be alert on some relationship between israel and guatemala thought. just imagine israel helping guatemala to invade belize with weapons of war. where will we go or hide Jesus keep mercy on us.
maddyvan get your story straight! Israel is a very big tourist destination! Every heard of the holy city and all the biblical sites? Most are in Israel and thousands of people visit these sites every year; especially Jerusalem.
What I can agree with is why are we there because they are of no help to us. If it was not for America they would not have been. Besides they have their hands full with all the mess they created when they took those people land just like what Guatemala is trying to do to us. Notwithstanding they have a system of government that we can learn much from and if they can survive sorounded by enemies we could use some of this knowledge too.

Mr. Wilfred “Artificial borders” Elrington, please inform us on what the purpose of this trip is? Let me give take a shot at it. We are in a neverending dispute with Guatemala regarding our border, so you meet with the coountry, ISRAEL, that started off with border control that turned into to an explosive invasion to “cleanse” generations after generations from their own land to help us, I mean YOU, come up with some strategies to resolve this? Are you trying to create an alliance with them to publicly threaten Guatemala? We need answers.
There is so much we are not aware of in the world. If people are really aware of what is going on in Palestine, or what is left of it, they would agree that an alliance like this can not be viewed as any form of positive shift in foreign policy. How long will our policians continue to sell us to the highest bidder?

of course he is traveling on tax payers money – first class to Israel is roughly about 3000 + USD. That could have fed so many needy kids at school. what is the purpose of his trip???

Israel did not support our quest for indpendence instead they sided with Guatemala, so i do not see the rational for this visit; had it not been for the press release from the Israeli Foreign Ministry we would not have known anything about it, why the secrecy? this one really smell fishy.
