Pakistani national busted with weed

Muhammad Faisal

Muhammad Faisal

A Pakistani national who has residency in Belize, is in trouble with the law for weed allegedly found under a mattress in his apartment. Muhammad Faisal, a resident of Chancellor Avenue appeared in Court today and was read a single charge of drug trafficking. Faisal pleaded not guilty to the charge and said he was framed.  The Pakistani national who was unrepresented in court, was very emotional when he tried to explain his situation to Senior Magistrate Sharon Frazer. He said that he had just began renting the room. Police allegations are that this past Sunday, they found a small quantity of weed in Faisal’s apartment when they acted upon a tip. There was no objection to bail since Faisal was able to show that he has residency in Belize.  Faisal was unable to meet the six thousand dollar bail which means he will be further remanded in custody.

I think it’s quite ridiculous to keep arresting people for weed. Don’t the police have bigger fish to fry? This is a complete waste of tax payer money and the police department’s time.

  2. maddyvandijk says:

Pakistani national is claiming that he was framed, was it by the police?
The police kill innocent people, framing someone is a common thing from the police.

  3. BELIZEAN PRIDE says:

leave this guys alone , find the police that are killers and those that asssault civilian. let the man get his feeling like bob marley. maybe it brings peace to this guy and better find the killers out there. police are a bunch of hypocrite.

  4. kickass says:

yeah i agree esteban, police should stop wasting thier time arresting people for a stick of marijuana, i wonder if they get a higher pay wen they bring someone in or if they jus do it to make people’s life worst

  5. Student says:

It pisses me off to know that the police will take their precious time out to go look for some weed under a mattress!!! Are you kidding me?! This poor kid.
It sure does sound like he was framed. And unrrepresented in court because he probably can’t afford a lawyer. This is sad. Is it even lawful for them to come into your home like this?

  6. Belizean says:

Why are you guys feeling sorry for a Foreigner to be arrested in Belize for a stick of weed. The law is the law; if you break it, you suffer the consequences. If a BELIZEAN breaks the law in Pakistan no matter how small or big. We will be mistreated that is a Fact! Good job Police! Keep arresting the law breakers.

  7. Belize City Dude says:

the dude doesnt even look like he smokes cigarettes let alone weed

  8. UB Student says:

I believed that he was framed, the fact that someone gave the police a “TIP” this seems like a setup. i agree with maddyvandijk.

  9. Tyadia says:

Belizean, as a woman who celebrates her many freedoms in Belize, life sucks in Pakistan. I am glad he is in Belize where he can be be exposed to a society that does not incorporate its religious fanaticism into the law.
Anyway, just the fact that he would’ve suffered a great deal more in Pakistan shouldn’t apply at all to how we carry out our laws.
While I acknowledge that this is a crime and against the law in Belize, I am concerned it is a stupid one that needs change! And, I am concerned about the procedures involved for police to gain a warrant to search this man’s mattress. And because he can’t afford a lawyer, if he did suffer any injustice, he will have no voice in fighting for any rights that might have been violated.

  10. Tyadia says:

Oh yeah, and one more thing, Belizean. I bet some of your ancestors were FOREIGNERS at one point in time.

  11. Overly Concerned says:

I think we need to change our mentality. I agree totally with Belizean. No matter what is happening in the police dept the law is the law. We are not judge and jurors. it is not the polices job to determine if he was set up. That is for the court of law. All police is responsible for is proper evidence gathering. Last time i checked weed was illegal in this country so he deserves to be charged accordingly. Would we be defending a Belizean the same way? Do you think if roles were reversed the pakistan people would be defending us?

  12. Tyadia says:

Overly Concerned, I am overly concerned that you all use the law in other countries to justify how we carry out our laws at home. There is just no logic in that. And why on Earth should we look at Pakistan of all places to justify anything.

While yes we do know that weed is illegal and we know the law is the law, we little news commentators here use the forum in some cases to express our feelings towards the law. Obviously, many people think marijuana use should be decriminalized; hence our sympathies toward this individual REGARDLESS s of his NATIONALITY. Just look through the archives for news stories on Belizeans being charged. The majority of the sentiments are the same.

As with the radio talk shows, letters to editors etc. this news commenting is just another way for people to express their opinions, even of their concerns with the law and police procedures.

  13. Dr.Rane says:

… Mr. Officer Gwan go look fi guns and cocaine inna di ally and
Low di coolie wid di weed so him push it like a trolley….lol

  14. Student says:

You all really need to do your research before you come here and become experts on international law.

In Pakistan, “Laws prohibiting the sale and misuse of cannabis exist, but are very rarely enforced. As with hash, the occasional use of cannabis in community gatherings is broadly tolerated as a centuries old custom, despite its association with lower-income groups. The open use of cannabis by Sufis and Hindus as a means to induce euphoria has never been challenged by the state. Further, large tracts of cannabis grow unchecked in the wild.”

  15. EarlGray says:

ONE OUNCE OR LESS ….. DECRIMINALIZE NOW!!!!!!!!

  16. Tyadia says:

Thanks, Student. Yeah let’s be like Pakistan, keep weed illegal (so we can remain in the UN’s good graces), but don’t actually enforce the law, since well, we have more important matters to deal with!!!

  17. Esteban says:

Agree 100% with Tyadia. The law is senseless. What does society gain from imprisoning someone for marijuana? And another thing… I agree that something sounds fishy.

The law also doesn’t prejudice angainst Nationality either Belizean, Pakistani, or whoever, will be locked up. If the police does their job in a fair manner and have all evidence; again guys the courts are there to decide the fate of that individual. God Bless Belize. And all should abide by the laws of the land; if many haven’t been seeing the news lately, look where we are heading. The crimes are getting more and more terrible.
