Police officer remanded to prison for murder

As police look for the Bowen and Bowen robbers, interdicted police officer, Alpheus Parham, was today arraigned with the shooting murder of thirty one-year-old Alex Goff.  Goff was a handicap originally of Mopan Street in Belize City who relocated to the island earlier this year to brace the economic decline.  But something went awry shortly after five on Sunday evening when Goff was shot in the middle of the forehead with a police point thirty eight service revolver. While the circumstances are still not known, this morning relatives of the deceased turned up at court to see firsthand the man who allegedly pulled the trigger.  Parham, who appeared unrepresented, was remanded to the Hattieville Prison until June fourteenth.  The police press release which followed the incident states that Goff was detained and later escorted to the Caye Caulker Police Station where he was placed in the cell block for disorderly conduct and for assaulting a police officer.  But Goff did not quiet down and Parham returned to the cell block and spoke to him.  PC Federico Tush, who was also at the Police Station, reported that he heard a loud bang and immediately saw Parham exiting the cell block and leaving the station.  When Tush checked the cell he saw Goff in a sitting position and bleeding from a gunshot wound to the forehead.  About a year ago, Parham, who coincidentally resides on Police Street, was the driver of the Chief Justice, Justice Abdulai Conteh.  After he left that post, he was driving for Justice Adolph Lucas at the Supreme Court before being transferred to duties in Caye Caulker.

what happen with the other cases? The other officer should also be jailed for murder…the Turjillo case? the Galvez case?

This is another incident similiar to that a few years back in Orange Walk likewise a few times in Belize City, also a few years back—sometimes its a lot more than it seems–But isn’t this incident also another that have been occurring on the Islands detention cells!! Spooky

I sure hope the family gets justice cause despite the fact that this scumbags come to ruin our islands the cops have no right to shoot them while they pose no threat to the officers.

That said the deceased and a group of his friends are like scavengers on the tourists out here on the island. They go around asking tourists for 10 dollaz and when they don’t get the cash they intimidate the tourists. This is a situation that the Police Department needs to get their hands on because if it continues unchecked it will destroy the economy of Caye Caulker. I would like to ask Channel 5 to get in contact with all the guys they interviewed two days ago who are friends of the deceased and ask them what they do for a living here on the island..That would be an interesting story on its own.

  4. Scuba mom says:

Islander yes I agree with you, All those three guys do is wait at the water taxi pier and start prying on tourist immediately as they come off the boats. I dear the news media to send in an undercover media reporter act as a tourist and stay on the island for two days to see what these guys really do. Hints, beg for money, sell drugs to tourist, scam tourist…..u want me to continue.

Well i think a lot of people have the different concept of what these people do , i know this policeman very good he is very easy going very quiet and all ways have a nice smile on his face . i wonder what trigger this to happen . Oh well and life goes on.

First and furthermost I express my deepest condolences to the Goff Family. However, I feel obligated to shed some light of the events that led up to the incident. Mr. Goff was at the split drinking and harassing some tourist as reported by various media houses. When the proprietor got at his establishment, he made a call and the police where dispatch to the location.
Prior to the arrival of the police, Mr. Goff was yelling, ‘deh no know who me, I da a murder” and “them no know whe i come from” , and “i got grenade” His friend was trying to move him from the location but he put up a fight. His friend even told him to “hold it down, and lets go from ya” His friend got him just in front of Mr. Alamina’s house where the officers met up with them trying to arrest Goff and put him on the cart. This was not an easy task. He threw several punches at the officers and the officers only defended themselves. Even after he was on the golf cart and one arm was hand cuff to the cart he used the other free hand to throw punches at the officer who was driving.
There is no justification for the manner of which this man life was taken, but i firmly believe that the media houses need to get the story straight. These guys come to Caye Caulker to harass the tourist and sell drugs. The house where Channel 5 went to conduct the interview is the base for several of them. Islanders have no problem with people coming to the island to earn an honest living and contribute positively to our community we have a problem with those individuals who try to condemn our tourist industry and use fear as a tactic to manipulate tourist and islanders.

  7. Public Defendah says:

The allegations of corrupt police officers is causing bad politics. The powers that be will make anyone a scapegoat right now in trying to demonstrate a control of the crime situation.

  8. macal rivera says:

I no andastan you people, men like alex goff are poeple who are part of the crime problem, from what i understand he was behaving really bad,and by expirience I have seen what a drunken man can do, they are capable of killing then they holler “sorry I was under the influence of alcohol or drugs” what if he had killed the policeman?? This man is hadicapped, instead of he praying for a miracle, he is out there drinking and harrasing tourist, where did he get money from, wa she a hard working man?? I agree that the police did wrong but can we hear the other side of the story, what if he tried to take the police………!! we no know weh happen ina di cell!! I no feel sorry for him! as for the police he sholda mi control himself! now the police look bad again!!HMMMM confused world!!

  9. baby D says:

Let me tell u something the drug man they work together with police in the hustling ,the regular police man they make like four hundred and something dollars every 2 weeks which is not enough for there pocket and later on they link up with the drugs man them and they go sell weed to the tourist and set the police to bust them then they take the tourist one side after apprehending them and tell them if they don’t pay them a certain amount of money they will take away there traveling documents and fine them or be lock up . So the tourist they get scared and pay up whatever money the police they ask for and get off the island they cops and criminal work together.
they both hustle on both ends and cover for each other, Changing the police officers off the island is not going to do no good because whosoever they put on the island it just a matter of time they will adjust themselves and fall into the same world and life goes on with the same problems .

  10. cayo buay says:

Now, I understand where the Islanders are coming from with regards to people visiting the islands and not contributing in a positive way to their bread and butter which is Tourism, I understand, really I do. But, the eye opening, knee buckling problem here is the fact that we are surrounded by police officers who abuse their authority……lock the man up and leave him in his cell!! Not only on the island but all over the country. The police department needs to step up their internal sanctions when it comes to the way detained people are treated.

  11. cayo buay says:

Today it may be the scumbags……..but tomorrow, it can be you or me in the crossfire.

  12. Alvira Clark says:

IS THIS TRUE? WHAT BABY D SAYS? THIS HAS BEEN HEARD OUTSIDE OF BELIZE THAT THE BIGGEST PROBLEM IS THE DRUG PEOPLE THAT CONTROL THE WHOLE COUNTRY AND THE FLOW OF THE MONEY? WORK FOR OR HAVE RELATIVES IN THE DRUG TRADE AND THEY ARE THE ONES THAT CAN GET AWAY WITH ANYTHING THEY WANT. THE BAD ARE NOT AFRAID, THEY ALREADY KNOW TO MUCH DIRT ON EVERYONE INVOLVED. GOT DIRT ON SOMEONE IN THE SYSTEM, ASK THEM TO PERFROM AN ILLEGAL FAVOR OR LOOK THE OTHER WAY AND IT GOES ON AND ON. THE UNSUSPECTING GETS CAUGHT IN THE WEB, THEN GET USED, ABUSED, ROBBED AND MADE A FOOL OF AND THERE IS NO RECOURSE. INDEPENDENCE SHOULD NOT BE A LICENSE TO KILL AND ABUSE, THAT IS WHAT HAPPENED IN BE.IZE. I HAVE SEEN WHAT IT HAS DONE TO MY FAMILY.
