Da De, 71 years, goes to prison for abusing minors

Emmanuel Gabourel, aka “Da De” celebrated his seventy-first Birthday while on remand at the Hattieville Prison this past Sunday, but Gabourel will be heading right back for sexually molesting two sisters, ages two and four. Gabourel was found guilty in April, but his sentence was delayed because his attorney had requested time for witnesses to speak on his behalf. His long old friend and co-worker, Chester Lee Pinks, told the court that he had known Gabourel for over fifty years and that he was honest and trust worthy. Gabourel himself told the court that he was sorry and that going to jail would kill him. But in her ruling, Senior Magistrate, Sharon Frazer, told Gabourel that she could not ignore the fact that he has a previous sexual offence conviction and imposed a custodial sentence of one year imprisonment for aggravated assault of an indecent nature. During trial it was revealed that the two girls were missing after they were left at home in the care of an older sister and were later found by their father at Gabourel’s house. One of the girls testified in court and said they had been abused by Gabourel.
One year for abusing 2 little children? In one year’s time he will be out doing the same thing!
His excuse is that he is too old to go to jail? who is he kidding?? He should’ve thought about that before committing the crimes. I say lock his azz up until the Devil is ready for him, what an idiot!

Abused children in Belize seem to always go unnoticed or accepted, or treated with very little care. This man is a cockroach of that society and the time has come to eradicate him.
Regardless of age, sex abuse is one of the most despicablle crime, especially the abuse of babies, which these two minors are. Whether he dies in jail or not, thats where he belongs.

More Awareness, More Empowerment initiatives need to be in place for sexual abuse to drastically decrease. Parents also need to converse with their children and let them know that they are SAFE and that their feelings are VALID and their opinions DO MATTER. A lot of the fear within us stems from the old Belizean ubpringing unpublished manual: That the mere fact that because we are children, our thoughts and our ideas are also infantile. When in fact, we feel most of what our parents are going through and we suffer from it as much as they do. So please start in the home. Mothers Love Your Children and Let them know. Show them, Tell them, Protect them at ALL costs. WIN Belize- suite up. Powa Fu Woman- Load your armors. Other affiliated NGO’s and supporters- enlist NOW. It doesn’t matter if it is an old/young man who did the molesting to the girls, the sentence is NOTHING, compared to the TRAUMA these girls will face with the rest of their lives. and for the friends and attorneys to support him you too should spend time behind bars for protecting a PEDOPHILE. LIKE SUPER G SAID “DASH WEY THE KEYS AND MEK IN THEM BURN”.
Well that is mess up he only got 1 year for that s…, In 2008 my daughter got rape the jamaican that did it did not even got charge for it the case went through the door every time u call or talk to the police them at the crime investigation branch, they dont have no vehicle they give u all kind a cock and bull story but when they want to go sleep with other people woman they find vehicle for it .
Belize city police is a joke and it is only getting worse and worse .

This is not a case where because of size or level of maturity he could have mistaken the girls and thought they were of age; for heaven’s sake these are infants!
I wish he does not die in prison too quickly I wish he just rots slowly!
Sasha: Everyone deserves a fair trial. Everyone needs representation in court. Just because someone is willing to represent the defendant in court doesn’t mean that that person is condoning the defendant’s actions. All this is in place to ensure that we don’t send innocent people to jail. If we decided to ban attorneys from representing all accused criminals in court, that would lead to chaos and quite possibly sending innocent people to prison.
Somebody’s got to clean the toilet, pick up the garbage, defend the accused.
Granted; however, let us not forget as well that the role of the defense lawyer for the accused is to try to get that individual from being convicted. So they may not condone drug dealing or molesting young children, but their primary purpose is to get their defendant to walk out of the court room a free person, even if they know that person is guilty.
He’s lucky it wasn’t any of my kids that he molested, as he’s be in hell now, let alone during his time in jail!
One year for molesting a child – a baby, yet you steal a loaf of bread and get up to 5 years! Once a ‘Nonce’ – always one – and this man, on release, will do it again, only the next time he may kill his victim, to avoid her turning him in and his going back to jail again!
So much for upholding human rights in this country – he should have gotten 7-10 years, and if still alive, be placed on a Sexual Offenders Register for the rest of his life, reporting to the Police once a month, and have restrictions placed on him. (i.e. not to live near a school, or be allowed to participate in child or youth activities (Scouts etc.)). Oh, sorry, this is Belize, and there is no facility for that kind of service to protect the children.

Human & drug trafficking is rife in Belize, lead by the very people who claim to adhere to transparency, good governance, and rule of law. Sexual abuse of children is so common, that it’s almost a fashion, (as is domestic abuse & violence) and with the judiciary passing such leniant sntences, looks to me that it’s condoned by those in power as well!
Unfortunately, the majority have to suffer for the few that get caught and convicted (as there are a lot more out there whose crimes never come to light), as we all get tarred with the same brush.

Parents watch your children, trust no one because usually it is the very person that you trust that hurt your children. I see too many little girls and boys walking the streets alone and it scares me to think of what could happen to them being out there unsupervised. There are too many very sick men out and about in this country some of them purposely come to this country to harm our young children, so Please Please parents start taking better care of your children and if you see their behavior change sit and talk to them and let them know you are there for them, stop this old Belizean way where the adults are always right and to be trusted because most of them are not why do you think there is so much crime in Belize obviously it is because we have so many corrupt sick adults. I am so so sorry for the little girls their spirit have been altered for the rest of their life. God please give them some peace because they will live with this forever.
The role of a defense attorney is not to allow the defendant to walk out of the courtroom, but to see that the law is upheld, that the defendant is afforded his civil rights. If the police do their job within the law, the defense attorney is only an advisor to the defendant. Defendants walk out of the courtroom because prosecutors cannot prove the defendant is guilty. Prosecutors depend on police to investigate and provide the evidence to prosecute.
