Over thirteen thousand dollars recovered from City Council scam
Last week News Five reported gross discrepancies and possible missing monies from City Hall in connection with payments for overdue rent made by vendors at the Queen’s Square Market. Councilor Kevin Singh said that they cannot account for the payments. While officials investigate the unaccounted funds Belize City police have been able to recover thirteen thousand, three hundred and seventy-five dollars from a previous scam. In February city administrator Dr. Kiran Vanjani reported that a substantial amount of money was embezzled from the Belize City Council by a trio of employees. The misappropriation, allegedly organized by Keera Ford, included Farah Jones and Marvin James who both are accused of pocketing monies in the sum of thirty and thirty one thousand dollars respectively. During November twenty-fifth of last year and February second of this year City Hall says the Administrative Tax System was manipulated to cancel and backdate receipts for the payments of liquor and trade licenses as well as property taxes.
Where’s Mayor “Mother Theresa” Moya Flowers in this? After all, she is on an anti-crime crusade. Besides, as the Mayor, the buck stops at her desk, and like a ships Captain, she is responsible for the actions of her crew.
Mind you, we are in Pass the Buck Belize – where the PM declares war on crime, and neither the Minister of Security nor ComPol are nowhere to be seen!
The mayor will only hire her own so I am sure she will have nothing to say regarding these employees. She will not hire anyone that is honest and stand up for honesty because she will not be able to manipulate them as she wish. How can we tell the citizens of Belize to be honest and stop criminal activities when they have such good role models running the country. Belize is out of control and it seems that only God can clean up the country. I predict that disaster is on the way to cleanse Belize.
