Carmela Lennan wins the Lotto jackpot

A humble woman from the San Ignacio Town, who is known for helping youths in her community, is the first lucky winner since the Lotto resumed. She is Carmela Lennan, a mother of seven, who now plans to do repairs on her home and invest in the future of her kids. Lennan got the lucky numbers in the Wednesday night jackpot, which was at seventy-two thousand five thousand dollars, but after taxes she collected a cheque for sixty-one thousand six hundred and twenty-five dollars. She heard the winning numbers on the radio the morning after the draw, but didn’t have her ticket to cross-check. So Lennan wasn’t sure that she won until Saturday morning. She told us how that went when we met her at Tropical Gaming office this afternoon.

“When my husband came home I said Tio please go and get the lotto numbers for me. So he said, not today tomorrow. I said okay. So he went in the morning and he came back and said the place is closed so I didn’t get your lotto numbers. He said but I asked somebody out there and they said somebody won the lotto already. So I said I won it. And he said ‘I won it, you’re joking’. I said it’s true so he said ah gial. So I was teasing him and Saturday morning he got up and went to market and I said bring the lotto numbers so I can see the lotto numbers please. When he came back—I adopt two little girls—she came and she said si di lotto numbers here. When I saw it I said Monique I won the lotto. So she said you won the lotto? But the way I said it I think nobody believe me. So I yes I won the lotto and I hugged her up and started to dance with her. I want to do something on my house and I have my little organization that I want to give something to. And I have seven children; my children, two adopted and about thirty grandchildren so everybody is happy.”

“I didn’t choose it. We usually buy five. The top number is contract; if my husband doesn’t buy it, I buy it and then we would buy four quick pick. So these other ones came in the quick pick.”
