Officer injured in accident during Operation Jaguar

accidentOperation Jaguar has reportedly made a sizeable bust in Belize City but it has left one police officer seriously injured. A high speed chase shortly after four o’clock between a patrol vehicle and another vehicle ended in a collision at the corners of Partridge and Vernon Streets in the Lake Independence area.  The recently donated Toyota vehicle carrying ASP Alford Grinage collided with a green Land Rover owned by PUP Deputy leader, Francis Fonseca who was not in the vehicle driven by George Domingo and who was travelling along Vernon Street.  Grinage is hospitalized for injuries sustained in the accident.    A second police vehicle continued the pursuit and officers allegedly recovered suspected cocaine and cash in a red car.  He was reportedly unconscious for approximately three hours and his siblings told News Five a short while ago that he is regaining consciousness.  Operation Jaguar is the latest approach to tackling the current crime situation.  Increased police and B.D.F. patrols are visible on the streets of Belize City since the operation came into effect.

Sorry that had to happen to the officer in his line of duty, but I love the way they are out there on the streets getting after those criminals. I applaud the police force in stomping out those worthless little worms that are criminals, we must create a zero tolerance atmosphere where everyone will feel safe…………except the criminals. If they want money let them go work for it like normal people instead of robbing others!!

I remember a few years ago I went back to Belize, while strolling through the streets of Belize we came across several cops and soldiers patrolling around with guns in their hands.

We immediately left the area out of intimidation of seeing police/ BDF with guns patrolling the streets. A few days we left Belize for Mexico and came across the thing in Mexico, police patrolling the streets heavily armed, we left that area immediately along with the rest of tourists.
Sad that it has come down to this, but it is needed to save lives and take back the streets.

It look like a step up to tackle crimes on the streets using this new force, I hope though that the soldiers are over trained for this day to day task., It is not an easy task and lives are being put at risk.

I hope this soldier makes a speedy recovery, and thumbs up to you guys.

I LIKE THIS WORK BEING DONE IT BRINGS A LITTLE RELIEF TO ALL BELIZEANS. EVEN DO WE HAVE ALOT MORE TO DO WHICH WE HOPE WILL BE CARRIED ON TO BRING THE PEACE IN THIS JEWEL OF OUR. KEEP THE PLAN GOING AND DO IT FOR YOUR COUNTRY AND HONOR.

Quoting maddyvandijk “We immediately left the area out of intimidation of seeing police/ BDF with guns patrolling the streets” – In my opinion police or bdf patrolling the streets armed are not a deterent or have a negative impact on tourism. If you are not use to seeing guns, rifles etc in public then it can be alarming at first but it makes most people feel safe. Let the records speak for themselves, Mexico and Guatemala have triving far better tourism numbers than us and both countries and other central american countries have this same practice so if it works for them and gets the bad elements off the street, i say no problem…i live and work in San Pedro and i have yet to hear negative comments towards this practice from locals or tourist… and maddyvandijk keep those excellents comments coming…i love to read them…jeje…

It is good to know that the operation is ongoing and i hope that it will be sucessful , but i wish other drivers in the city would show some respect for the police unit or even other emergengy vehicle. they should at least pull off to the side of the road or something, I recall two years ago when i visited back home is encountered an ambulance on the highway, i immediately pulled to the side of the road, to let it have a clear path. some dumb..s driver behind just flew right around me into the path of the emergency vehicle, even with lights flashing and siren on this driver showed no respect for the ambulance, drivers in belize need to get out of the way when any emengency vehicle is coming, govt need to impose law and fines for all those who do not abide by this.

  9. Mr Kandid says:

To the injured Officer, get well soon and thanks for your service. To the rest of the Police, more Please.

  10. Islander says:

Thank you for your service Mr. Officer and may you have a speedy recovery. Bravery is not the lack of fear but being afraid and still saddling up in the face of danger.

With regards to the above poster about being afraid of armed cops…Which country are you from? If you are from the USA, the cops there are armed to the teeth, my best friend is one. He carries a GLOCK 22 in .40 caliber, three reloads, a backup gun GLOCK 27 in .40 caliber, a Tazer, a can of pepper spray, a collapsible baton, two folding knives, two handcuffs, and there is an AR-15 in the trunk of his cruiser in case the need arises.

WHEN I SEE AN ARMED COP ON THE STREETS WEATHER I AM IN BELIZE, GUATEMALA, THE USA OR EVEN GERMANY I FEEL SAFE…..

  11. babygirl says:

Amen Islander—you’re right I guess they have’nt travel enough for here in the USA we’re used to seeing armed officers especially at the airports and yes our family is much safer here than they are in BZE. Being armed and enforcing the law I’m all for it. The problem of the country is everyone has gotten so use to breaking the law it has become a part of life now that they are trying to enforce it all of a sudden it’s a problem.Try keeping our kids in school teach them how to read and write and be critical thinkers. problem solve because that will help them to make the right decisions in life it doesn’t matter what type of home they come from, it all starts with positive thinking from the home..A BULLY IS ONLY ALLOWED TO BULLY IF THE BULLIED LET IT HAPPEN…

  12. yankee bway says:

Nuff respect to mi brethren keep up the good work get well soon we need you on the streets

  13. COUGAR says:

I AGREE IT DOES GIVE YOU A LITTLE MORE SENSE OF SECURITY, BUT SAFE FROM WHAT WHEN WE ARE ARMING THE CRIMINALS……….THEY ARE A MAJOR PART OF THE CRIME FAMILY. SOME OF YOU MIGHT NOT WANT TO FACE THE FACTS BUT WE ARE THE ONLY ONES SUFFERING AND LIVING IN FEAR. THE BAD BOYS AND THE POLICE ARE BOTH STRAPPED AND READY FOR EACH OTHER, OR SHOULD I SAY READY FOR US!

  14. Jah Kid says:

Did we had to wait until the son of a Political Officer became a victim. I blame the life of our beloved bethren to the negligent Minister. My Government you have done the right thing, I’m so sorry that so much lives were lost becauese of procastination. Many more Adventists will loose thier lives for the truth. Why? Because that is the only religion that is trying to live what the bible teaches. The bible says “If you love me keep my Commandments”, said Jesus. Not putting no other Christian down but the truth always offends. When I used to drink liqour and visited churches that preach about drunkards I used to walk out of those churches and said that they only love to watch people lives. But I have moved away from all those teasers (liquor, beers and other alcoholic drinks) and now I live a better life. Everyone is different so let us respect people decisions and believes, Respect to all Adventists, keep up your faith and may God protect all your faithful ones. Mr Meyers, it is so sad that you made such a big mistake to take away the life of your friend from childhood. You need to repent and replace him in the faith. Mercy on you. To my comrades (BDF) on the streets keep your head high and be alert. Pray before going to the streets, and if you have to press that trigger, “BOTTOM CENTER OF THE WHITE PATCH” ON THE TARGET, take these leeches out of the street, they have increased in number from when I was out there. God give you all wisdom and protection.

  15. Tim says:

why wasn’t fonseca in his vehicle at the time of the accident?? ..

  16. drummy says:

If this is what is needed in Bze. Im all for it. most Belizean youths wants to live that fast US life style but the country is not ready for such. Out here we see law enforcement with firearms all day. So therfore , this is what they want so let them deal with it. Good job.

  17. MRS. VERNAMAE LODGE says:

THANKS TO THE LAW ENFORCEMENT, YOU ALL ARE DOING A GOOD JOB, KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK. THANKS AGAIN………..MAY GOD BE WITH YOU ALL, I WILL PRAY FOR YOU ALL…….

  18. Street Justice. says:
