Microsoft launches software suite in Belize

george gobin

Software juggernaut Microsoft is launching its latest suite of programs for 2010 in Belize.  The corporation’s regional manager George Gobin is in the country along with other representatives to promote Microsoft Office 2010.  It’s called Wave 14, an introduction to several user friendly programs designed for use on its latest operating system.  Gobin says Belize was chosen as an ideal location within the Caribbean to launch its new release because it is a fast developing nation in the field of computer applications.

George Gobin, Country Manager, Microsoft

“It’s part of what we do in the country, bring technology into the country like this because we understand that it’s very expensive for people from Belize to go to visit other countries to keep abreast of what’s happening in technology; the trends, what people are doing in the industry. So what we as a corporate citizen want to do is one: make sure that we have product launches here and also give you, expose you to what’s happening in the industry, the information technology industry, the consumer industry. How are people using technology?  One of the things that we’ve seen in other Caribbean islands and really globally is that people generally don’t get a good refund or return on their investment in spending money on technology.  And what we want to do is show the people of Belize that consumers and the businesspeople, that you can actually get a good return on your investment by use, implementation and deployment of technology.”

The three-day conference which is being held at the Radisson is hosting software technicians from various government and non-government organizations across the country.  It concludes tomorrow.

“we understand that it’s very expensive for people from Belize to go to visit other countries to keep abreast of what’s happening in technology;” – Obviously he has not heard of this little thing called the INTERNET!!! Jeez guy, do you think we just sit in Belize and eat bananas all day? Really hate it when people talk like that, as if they are opening our eyes to what is out there. Wish everyone would just go with Open Office. Companies can barely afford the hardware, now you come to force us to buy overpriced software. No Thanks. OPENOFFICE.ORG PEOPLE…LOOK IT UP!

are they also talking about $$$ cause they are expensive for the licence that you users have to pay yearly to MS. there are lots of softwares out there that are free, free of cost, free to be modified to suit your need. that can help any person, or business use technology with out having to pay licences. there are lots of schools using it here in Belize and there have not been no complains.. use free software be free..

Quoted from article above: Where did Mr. Gobin get his information? I’m sure this will be his line where ever he does this workshop.
