James Adderley with the latest in sporting statistics
Good Evening I’m James Adderley with this week’s portion of Sports Tuesday.
The Caribbean Motors Cup final got off to a roaring start in Dangriga, on Sunday where George Town Ibayani utilized the Carl Ramos Stadium to host the Belize Defense Force to kick off the two game series for the 2010 B.P.F.L. title. Georgetown is looking for its first championship in this league ,while the B.D.F. as defending champions is marching towards two in a row. The military looks to strike first when Tyrone Pandy picks out Orlando Jimenez, who is denied by the intervention of the Georgetown keeper, Devin Montes. The B.D.F. then look to capitalize off this spot kick form a dangerous position but the launch by Kareem Haylock curls directly to Montes. In football, there is a saying that goes like this “be quick, but don’t hurry” and we’re certain Onis Martinez would like to re-launch this left foot. We’re thirty-seven minutes in when Lisbey Castillo works his magic on the right wing to find Evan Mariano whose strong header screamed past Montes to give the B.D.F. a 1-zip lead. The Military looks for more off this set piece triggered by Tyrone Pandy but this time Montes intervenes successfully and at the half, the 1-nil B.D.F. lead stands.
Coming out of intermission, the B.D.F. almost execute this good looking set piece. David Trapp and Kareem Haylock do this job but the finish by the goal scorer Mariano is disappointing. However, on the next offensive press Haylock looks up with Khalil Velasquez who gets to the spot in time to give the Military a commanding 2-zip lead at the forty-ninth minute. This does wake up the Georgetown Team but they just seem unable to find the goal. So Marin Villanueva decides to fire from long distance but the right foot punch veers off course. Folks, it’s not that Ibayani didn’t get their chances to score it’s just that they could not put it together for a goal. Talk about not putting it together, the B.D.F. gets a shot at closing out the show but Dennis Serano somehow bungles the easy play. It’s at the ninety-first minute of play that the breaks through comes for Ibayani courtesy of this individual effort from Darwin Castillo who gets his team on the scoreboard. The long whistle gives the 2-1 win to the B.D.F. who have moved one step closer to repeating as B.P.F.L. Game two now comes to the M.C.C. Grounds this Sunday, May thirtieth at four p.m., so stay tuned.

At this juncture, Placencia Assassin leads with 15 points, Hattieville is next with 13, City Boys 11, Nizhee Corozal, Santa Elena and San Felipe all show 10 points apiece in that order, Belize United has 7 points and Cayo South infests the cellar with a mere point. The leading scorer right now is Kevin Rowland with five goals. Thus the second round kicks off this Sunday May thirtieth with four matches. Belize Untied will host San Felipe Barcelona at the M.C.C. Grounds, Cayo South will travel to Placencia Assassin, City Boys United will be hosted by Santa Elena by Synergy and Nizhee Corozal will be at home against Hattieville F.C.

Let’s now head to the City Center for Friday night’s bug monster showdown between the San Pedro Tigersharks and Jamboree in Ballin 4 Life Basketball Tournament. Ivan Jackson asks Doug Penland to get on pick for him and knocks down the tre to get the Tigersharks leveled at 3-apiece. Jackson then goes to the other side of the court to land his second tre. Ivan would launch thirteen threes and hit only three, but would finish with twenty-one points thanks to the fifty percent he shot otherwise. Richard Troyer then comes alive for Jamboree as he penetrates for two to stop and 8-zip run. Keith Acosta also gets into the act taking on the Tigersharks defense for two tough points. And you better believe that Richard Troy is on fire tonight as he strikes for two more points. Now making way for Judson Staples who goes down to come right here for two of his eleven game points as Jamboree wins the quarter 20-19. In the second quarter Richard Troyer comes back with the same fire hitting the strike here. Here would finish with the game high of thirty-five points. For the Tigersharks, the two man game between Gene Myvette and Sheldon Williams works to perfection. Gene Myvett would lead the San Pedro Team with twenty-four points and fourteen rebounds. Now watch Damion Staples muscle his way from two points down low. Staples would record two doubles of seventeen points boards. At the half the Sharks are up 41-37. It’s a tight one tonight folks so we fast forward to the fourth quarter with San Pedro up by three when here Myvette goes leftie to push the lead to five. This is a big play by Sheldon Williams who goes glass for two. At the other end, give Richard Troyer the assist as he finds Ronald Rivers who gets three of his thirteen game points right here. Talk about a big bucket, this three by Ronald rivers makes it a two point ballgame late in the day. In the meantime, folks this stop by Sheldon Williams on Richard Troyer is big in this matchup. And then Keith Acosta misses the three point attempt. The San Pedro Tigersharks go on to roll over Jamboree in an 80-75 final score.
