Mother/kidney patient pleads for life saving help

A young mother, whose kidneys failed about two years ago, now has to travel to Guatemala for surgery but she needs the help of the public to get there. Twenty-three year old Greilin Carcamo came to News Five’s studios today to appeal for financial assistance because she is facing life threatening complications and is in urgent need of the treatment, which comes with a price tag of three thousand dollars. While it is an expense beyond her means, Carcamo says it is something she must get done because she has a four year old daughter to live for.

“The doctor dehn done put wah lot ah catheters pan my hand, my chest dehn and now I noh got nowhere else fi put, only pan my stomach. But fi dat di doctor seh I need three thousand dollars and I can’t do it yah; dah only Guatemala dehn could do it.”

“So what kind of problems is this causing now?”

“A lot ah pain and bleeding and vomiting.”

“And your body is retaining water?”

“My stomach get swell because lot ah wata deh een deh.”

“So how soon do you need to get this done?”

“Di doctor seh by Thursday I suppose to catch di bus fi go dah Guatemala. I beg fi mek dehn help me because I have wah small baby fi live wid. I know if dehn mi sick dehn mi wah try di same thing weh I do; ask fi help because nobody want dead lef dehn kids. So I hope dehn help me because I noh want dead lef my baby. I noh want my baby stay and punish. I want stay wah couple years wid ah more.”

Sad when you see people in this situation, Life in Belize continues to be difficult, the poor feels it even more so.
For the lack of just three thousand dollars a person in Belize can die just like that, only a few can say that they have medical insurance for themselves and their children.
There are no equipped hospitals or doctors in Belize to do any serious operations, which makes the bad situation even worse for the sick.
