Jealous common-law-husband kills his wife

elena amador

For two weeks there have been no reports of murders in our daily newscasts. But that brief spell was broken over the weekend when a women and a man were murdered. Both cases did not have the usual element of gang warfare but instead are described as crimes of passion that occurred in the north and west of the country. News Five’s Isani Cayetano headed to Corozal where a young woman was killed by a jealous common-law-husband.

Isani Cayetano, Reporting

The families of a couple who many say were dangerously in love with each other are today trying to make sense of a brutal murder here in Corozal Town over the weekend.  What drove thirty-seven year old James Jackson to turn on his common-law wife in the wee hours of Sunday morning is a question he will have to answer before the Supreme Court.  Until then what police in this northernmost municipality know is that Elena Amador was fatally stabbed inside the couple’s apartment during a lovers’ quarrel.

Supt. Miguel Guzman, Officer Commanding Corozal Police

Miguel Guzman

“Police received certain information about a domestic dispute on Third Street North and Sixth Avenue.  Police responded and upon arrival there met one fellow by the name of James Jackson, thirty-seven years, inside the yard, dressed in boxers and he handed over what appeared to be a broken kitchen knife.  Police then proceeded to go inside the house where on the floor they saw the motionless body of a female partially nude whose name was learned to be Elena Amador, twenty-one year domestic, who is the common law wife of James Jackson.  She was lying in a pool of blood and police later transported the body to the Corozal Community Hospital”

According to Apollo Caliz the couple was very much into each other but his cousin’s common-law husband disapproved of the company she kept because of their sexual preferences.

Apollo Caliz, Cousin of Deceased

“They were really in love with each other, but a lot of jealousy plays in their relationship like theyre too jealous with each other.”

It was that sense of resentment that some say led to Jackson killing his wife.  His sister Gilda Gutierrez told News Five off record that the couple had numerous quarrels over the friends she kept.

Despite her common-law’s objections to the gay and lesbian lifestyles of her friends twenty-one year old Elena Amador was seen here at Naito’s on Saturday night where they were having a transvestite rave.

What’s left at the scene of the party is an article of lingerie on a small wooden stage that was loosely decorated.  Residents say both James and Elena attended the event separately and when it was over they proceeded to a nearby nightclub.

Apollo Riverol, Brother of Deceased

“I see my sister last night before they killed her but , I talk to her; but I didn’t see she happy right.  She was like vex and I tell ah eena Spanish que paso, como estas and she tell me seh molesta no me hablas and I ask ah bout ih husband  and then she walk away and ih gone.”

When did you receive the news of what happened to her?

Apollo Riverol

“Yesterday morning, like two-thirty eena the morning.  My uncle wake me up and ih she Polo I want you to be strong and ih hug mih and ih tell mi dehn just kill yo sista and I mih cyan believe it right.”

Supt. Miguel Guzman

“James Jackson was also seen with what appeared to be a cut wound on his right arm.  He was also taken to the Corozal Hospital where he was given medical attention.”

james jackson

Though it is unclear how Jackson got injured Amador’s family believes it was a suicide attempt.  Her cousin attests that Elena was not the type of person to cheat on her husband.

Apollo Caliz

“You know young people, we like to party and that’s what, that’s what she did she likes to party.  Right, it’s not something that ok I’m gonna party but I’m gonna cheat on my man.  She’s not like that. She just wants to party.”

And that’s how her family remembers her as the outgoing socialite.  James Jackson on the other hand is facing a single charge for murder.

Supt. Miguel Guzman

“He has been arraigned before the court for the crime of murder and the investigation into the matter continues.”

This idiot already lived his youth, and now he think he has the right to end someone else’s. Obviously a 38 year old man and a 21 year old woman have nothing in common, she still wanted to party, while he wanted to sit on the couch and fall asleep.

Belize is a small country and most people are ignorant towards the gay or lesbian lifestyle. Don’t get me wrong, it doesn’t look that bad, but it doesn’t look that good either. People are entitled to their own sexual preferences, like this idiot, he prefer young women, but yet he think his relationship is somehow different from that of a gay or lesbian person, how sick is that.

Don’t hang him, let’s cut his ugly head off for the fun of it.

  7. austin garbutt says:

love and jealosy are not in the same category, love is kind and caring, respectful and godly ,jealosy is stupidity, devilish, weakness, unsure of one self, insecure.you do not love simebody to death,,you love somebody to life, a good and happy life, these idiots think they own a woman, if you love a woman let her be free, let her go and go find some body else,it takes a big man to let a woman go,you cannot make some body love you and there a lot more like that in belize, abuse their woman and then want to cuddle up next to them with their sorry .. self

  11. maddyvandijk says:

This man seriously had issues that needed some medical attention; this had nothing to do with jealousy, more of an abusive, controlling relationship though. He hated gays, he hated lesbians, he was full of hate, and violence.

All the signs were there, they did not just popped up out of the blue the day he lost the rest of his mind. So don’t be so that he turned out to be a deadly, violent, possessive …….

  12. Proud Belizean says:

apply the full extent of the law to people like this! Kasandra, why u put police in this?

  13. Caleb Orozco says:

I was actually there at the trans show that night. Afterwards we hanged out and had some threats near Cactus the nite club. So we headed to a house to simply hang and party. It sad to hear she dies this way. She paid the ultimate price for not putting up with a homophobic husband. Still, he didnt have to do that. This crime indicates we have alot more more to do on tolerance.

  14. Kirian says:

Wow…this is truly sad…I find this ignorance and prejudice a little overwhelming. I have many gay and lesbian friends…and a non-homophobic husband who embraces my friends as his. To take a life over friendship is just…heartbreaking.

  15. John Boy/Carson, California says:

What a stupid reason to kill someone. I would rather be a friend to a gay or lesbian person than to a homophobic killer. This is like killing some one because you do’nt like their race. This is a crime motivated by hate.

  16. Lany says:

Tolerance … Think!!!- If you mom and dad were homos … would YOU be here???? Hell NO. Wake up….Being GAY is a statement of MIND… We were made to reproduce, GOD Said, Go forth and and multiple…

  17. Lany says:

However this doesn’t give ANYBODY the right to kill anybody… Judgment will be in GOD Hands….Don’t taint your hands, GOD will deal with them when the times comes.

  18. For Real says:

Ok, I grew up in Corozal, and this man has an older brother who was a Mental case. He flipped and his mentally unstable thoughts took over. That’s someting this gurl should have known. Don’t twist me thoughts now, I AM NOT SAYING SHE DESERVE IT, what i’m saying is… she should have known a little bit more about her spouse. wee bit crazy…

  19. belizeaninterest says:

Enough is enough WOMEN lets get together and stop this craziness. We deserve to be respected. No one has the right to take away in anyone’s life. These are the times I believe that Dorla Parham did the right thing since she was not heard. We do not need to reach to that point lets get together and stop this madness.
