Educational activities for insurance week

Organization of Insurance Companies (ORINCO) together with Belize Association of Financial Advisors and the Insurance Institute of Belize are hosting activities for Insurance Week. ORINCO is the umbrella organization for insurance companies in Belize and its president, Louise Moore, says the week’s events are focused on educating the public on reasons to buy insurance. This year’s theme is “Preserving and Creating Value” and according to Moore, there’s no better way to protecting your valuables than getting them insured.

Louise Moore, President, ORINCO

“Insurance week is a time that we try to educate the public on the necessity of insurance.”

“And you do that how?”

Louise Moore

“Well, we’re doing it through some programs, educational programs that will be airing on different radio stations and this is done by people working in the industry.”

“What other activities can we expect during this week?”

Louise Moore

“Well, we had a community project that we’re working on with the Ministry of Works and that is to refurbish the entrance to the Philip Goldson International Airport.  The reason we chose that is because many accidents have happened at that intersection and we thought that by doing that we would be able to help with the traffic in that area. And then there’s an alternative project that we’re looking at, which is to supply NEMO with a hundred and forty sets of flags. These are the flags that are used—hurricane warning flags that NEMO uses. At this time of the year where the hurricane season is right on top of us, most people are not in tuned to the risks involved and we’re trying to educate the public on the reasons why they should buy insurance and we felt that at this time most people will be looking for insurance because of the threat of hurricanes.”

In previous years, Insurance Week was hosted by life insurance companies only and was held in October.
