Deputy party leader Hyde condemns firings
There was no shortage of news from the P.U.P. and according to deputy party leader and Lake Independence Area Representative, Cordel Hyde, hundreds of public officers have been fired for political reasons.

“The four workers at BAHA and the forty-two workers of Youth for the Future are the latest in a series of dismissals because of suspected political affiliations. In a sense it is déjà vu all over again. We have been here before but just to remind you, the wanton victimization started back in March of 2006 as soon as the U.D.P. took over the Belize City Council.”
“There is not a single ministry or department in this government where persons have not been fired for suspected political affiliation. The figures suggest that well over three hundred persons have been fired by this government since February seventh. Most of the workers fired were hard working single mothers and head of households who have children to feed, rent to meet and school fees to pay. Behind the numbers are real people who are doing real jobs; school wardens who watched over our children each day, sanitation workers who kept our city clean. One of the ladies fired from BAHA has a kidney ailment. What kind of monster is Montero? In the middle of the great flood in Cayo, as people’s houses and crops and livestock were submerged under water, the Minister of Agriculture was directing the firing of Cayo ladies who are established public officers. Now what will these people do?”
“We stand in solidarity with the fiery Public Service Union President and her membership. Enough is enough. And so I wish to announce here this morning a protest March in Belmopan for early next week. And we will not stop there. This set has to get the sense.”
