Treasures; dig in, sit down, and enjoy the new play at the bliss

The work week has come to an end for many, which means that the weekend is time to seek some sort of rest, relaxation and/or recreation. If you love the theatre, want some family time and a good laugh…then you may be in luck. The Institute of Creative Arts (ICA) Bliss Centre is the venue for a funny and intriguing play called “Treasures.” The characters and their wit span several generations and they all hope to inspire you to come out, sit down, and watch as they dig up family entertainment and treasure.

Curtains will be drawn for a new play at the Bliss. ‘Treasures’ is written and directed by Joey Clarke.

Joey Clarke, Writer/Director

“It’s a very old story. It was adapted by a Roman playwright from an old Greek play and then it was subsequently adopted by a French playwright named Moliere, one of the classics of European literature. And me, I stole it like everybody else and made it my own version. The story is about a mean, but very rich old man who has some gold buried in his garden; in addition to that he wants to marry off his children and to get married himself and that is where the intrigue begins. We also have a crafty woman from down the road who is trying to help him get this bread that he wants. There’s the cook and the head factotum of the house who is also very curious and has his thing. And then there is his personal assistant who has a very curious secret that only comes out at the very end.”

Jamie Yearwood plays Fletcher.

“Fletcher is the help in Mister Balding house. He brings the drama to this play, he loves to cause mischief. To best describe him or the way I view him, he reminds me of Florence from the ‘Jefferson’—hardly want to do anything he’s suppose to do in the house, cause mischief and getting in people’s business.”

Jackie Castillo, Actress

“I play Rosaline in Treasures. And I get caught up between the search for love and the treasure. My character is more of the innocent sweet young girl who gets caught up in love and also gets caught up in the action that happens between the old Mister Balding and his family members. So it is interesting because if you come out and watch the play, then you will see how my role gets tied into everything that happens in the play and there is a very interesting twist at the end.”

“Definitely everyone should come out. It’s a comedy and we have done our best to make sure that whoever comes out to see the play can relate to a lot of the characters. My character especially is a very young and I think that many girls can relate to my character and the passion that I have and I think that it can relate to everybody.”

The cast says that the entire family can enjoy the show. Reporting for News Five, Jose Sanchez.

Treasures will be performed on two nights, Saturday and Sunday at eight p.m. Tickets cost ten dollars and can be bought at the door. Since ICA staff is preparing for the Wilfred Peters honorary concert, you will be able to purchase tickets throughout the weekend.
