Nicoli Rhys and Alton Roches charged for murder of gang leader

Alton Roches

The execution style murder of Southside gang leader, Andre Trapp, took place last Thursday in the most unlikely of places during broad daylight, the area of the Magistrate Court. Today two men with links to the police were arraigned for the murder. It is believed that the hit on Trapp was a contract killing, but who contracted the murder, is still not known.  Nicoli Rhys, an unemployed resident of Richard Street and Alton Roches, of Jane Usher Boulevard were taken to court this morning and read the murder charges before Chief Magistrate Margaret McKenzie.  Rhys is the son of a female police sergeant and Roches is the brother of a police officer. Both Rhys and Roches were remanded to the Hattieville Prison until August twelfth.

Rhys was detained minutes after the shooting on Regent Street, after he ran into a nearby bar on Southern Foreshore.  Roches was apprehended late Friday evening in the city.  Last Thursday, at about ten-fifteen a.m., Trapp left Magistrate’s Court Number Two following the adjournment of a case for drug possession, and was walking to the NICH parking lot when he was met by two gunmen who opened fire on him.  He ran but collapsed on the sidewalk facing Brodies Pharmacy and was transported to the K.H.M.H. where, according to police, he died while receiving treatment.

Andre Trapp

While the police department has two suspects in the homicide, there are many allegations surrounding the shooting death of Andre Trapp.  His family told News Five off camera that the hit on “Dre” was in retaliation for the shooting of attorney Rodwell Williams.  They allege that Trapp was detained for questioning in connection with that incident a few days before being gunned down.  They maintain that Trapp confessed to them that he was not involved in the shooting nor was he contracted to execute a hit on Williams.  Trapp’s family further named the owner of the vehicle in which the gunmen were seen in prior to the shooting.  Interestingly, Trapp’s relatives say they did not want any criminal charges brought against his accused killers because the order for execution came from someone else.

Before leaving court this morning, an additional charge of robbery was levied against Nicoli Rhys.  He was charged for the May second, robbery of Blades Ice-Cream Parlor located on Freetown Road. The ice-cream company was robbed of four hundred and sixty dollars.  In February, Roches was busted with a nine pistol loaded with thirteen live rounds and was charged with firearm offences. That case is still pending.

Here’s a good question some officials should answer: why was Alton Roches free from jail if he was arrested in February for non-bailable offences? If he did not get special treatment, maybe there would have been one less murder. Does he have friends in high places?

  2. cookiegirl says:

all charges withdrawan..you are free to go….so stupid

  3. maddyvandijk says:

In this case the family suspect that this was a “hit “, maybe it was a hit, maybe not.

In any case it was neither ok nor acceptable for Trapp to have caused so many problems to the people by bringing guns into the neighbourhoods, and selling or distributing drugs into his society. he was no role model, and that is the cold truth.

If the family believe that their son deserves any justice at all, then this is not the time to be in the mute mode, fight for what you believe and that should count for something.

  5. info.com says:

But if u also notice these guys have high links with the police ,Rhys mom is a sergeant of police and also roches is also a cop think about that.

  6. G.Girl says:

Belizeans will continue to suffer….people are crying in silence for help.Inocent people are being affected and there’s nothing thats being done. Now the family comes on TV n say that there was still a little good left in him?we dont know what he did,but for him to be gun down d way he did well there’s d terrible truth! JUSTICE SYSTEM?why do they call it JUSTICE when there is no hope

  7. info.com says:

  8. For peace sake says:

    To Cockeye girl,

Listen, before you run your mouth! That was a very good observation made by Gustav. You are probably one of the reason these guys are repeat offenders. He was charged in Feb of this year for a non bailable offense hence hi a** should have been locked up with the other criminals. That scenario could have been disastrous, shooting a man in the busy downtown area of the city where armed Police and security Forces could have retaliated by opening fire. Children, old ladies and babies could have been hurt. Do not be too quick defend criminal acts as we have a city no one cares to live in due to crime. Belize needs to straighten up and most people on this web site are tyrying to make suggestions to help. If you cant be part of the solution, then just stay mute, but dont be a part of the problem! We cant have vigilantes taking the law into their own hands. Killing is wrong even if the victim was no angel!

  9. melvin ivan says:

thats why beizeans don’t trust the justice system, police dept’ all a dem are corrupt.we no longer have justice in belize because there is no HOPE’.

  10. Julie says:

I NOT SORRY FOR ANDRE TRAPP. His family including sister, aunt and common law should be honest with themself he was far from a decent citizen.

  11. JUS ME says:

Funny.. but when murderers think or believe that they are FREE when they walk free from a crime; little do they know that GOD’S LAWS System is still in place; caz in actuality they are not. For the sins of the parents fall upon the child. How can a man be so selfish and walk free and and pay not for the crimes he has committed and allow his innocent kids to pay for the sins/mistakes they have made?? SELFISH N COWARD thing to do.

  12. SILENT says:

WHAT GOES AROUND…COMES RIGHT BACK AROUND. BECAUSE FOR SURE MR.TRAPP IS NOT INNOCENT. HOW MUCH PEOPLE DOES HE KILL ALREADY. THAT’S WHAT HIS DAMN FAMILY SHOULD BE TALKING ABOUT. WHY PRAISE HIM GETTING ON THE NEWS SAYING THIS & ALL KINDS OF STUFF LIKE HE WAS INNOCENT. TRYING TO PUT THE BLAME ON THE MINISTER OR MR RODNEY WILLIAMS. DO YUH HOMEWORK & INVESTIGATION RIGHT…ON MY BEHALF HE GOT WHAT HE DESERVES!!!

  13. G.Girl says:

SILENT u got that damn rite…cant say it better myself =]…glad people d realize these things.

  14. BORN THERE says:

If the Trapp family is asking for justice in his killing…that is the biggest irony of all, what about the countless lives that he has taken or partaken in destroying. What you sow, it must be reap.
As for Rhys and Roches, two piece of rope and a tree…then move on to the next one because there will be a next one i f we don’t start hanging these sore’s of society.

  15. babygrl says:

two wrongs don’t make one right regardless of the fact that he was a gang leader he was murdered.to be honest the country is moving backwards not forward.the first to be blamed are parents, friends, and passersby simple because they are the ones that never did anything from the beginning parents lie for kids friends cover for them and passersby turn their heads the other way.hanging will send a statement that enough is enough.BULLIES ONLY REMAIN BULLIES WHEN NO ONE BULLIES THEM BACK………

  16. babygrl says:

sometimes in order for there to be a change something drastic has to happen like maybe shooting after the ministers in power that would really get the ball rolling.reason why no one cares about the country or the people but politicians do care about themselves and their finances. that’s when they will try and do something about it.take a look at america they bombed new york the country went to war.do you know why the james gang came about because the railroad killed their mother and try to take their land they didn’t care when their neighbors were violated but they retaliated when they became affected by it. it’s always personal when someone in power is affected. ask george bush former president of usa.our country is still at war.reason why it was personal.

  17. Carlos... says:

This just frustrates me even more and makes me loose more confidence in our justice system. A guy told me once that he preferred being in Hattieville because there he is able to eat three times a day and have a job and shelter in comparison to the streets where he is homeless and he has to wonder where his next meal will come from. A friend and I were in an misunderstanding with a group of well known persons here in orange walk town, but because a police officer was with them that night drinking, on duty and in uniform; we got the turn around and nothing came out of it and we were left to cover all the cost of damages done against us. We were forced to settle out of court because the evidence could not be found and the officer who logged the complaint was always busy or out of duty whenever we visited the police station. When I hear things like this happen, it really disappoints me even more and am beginning to believe that people in this country will start taking matters in thier own hands. Lets just hope that there is still hope for Belize and that our “new minister of police” and his team will find practical solutions for the problems that we face! I think that it is a good idea to have a minister responsible solely for that department. His responsibilities will be more focused! Lets just hope his ministry doesn’t disapoints us because our justice systems REALLY NEEDS A RE-BOOT for the better!! So please, on behalf of a lot of Belizeans, Mr. Minister, DO A GOOD JOB!!!!

  18. South Sider says:

Justice in Belize does not mean the bad guy goes to jail…it simply means that someone pays for the crime

  19. Pissedoffcitizen says:

well di way things seem, if u got wa relative weh da police I guess dat entitle u fi do weh di … u want because you wa still get off free… Rhys MA da wa police and Roches BREDA da police… JUSTICE MIEN JUSTICE!!!! All we want in this country of ours, is to restore PEACE AND TRANQUILITY!!!!

  20. Chasitie says:

I have to comment on( babyGrl) post. I thingk its such as dumb statement. One we cannot compare Belize to America, Belize is such a small Country, compare to America. & Secondly we are not updated like America, Our country is Poor. (hello I lived in America too), & Belize have alot of room for improvement. ( I do not think any one should compare Belize to America) We are such A small Counrty.& Thirdly Bush went to WAr , for Oil, the whole world knows that by now, I think you’re behind time sweeethearts. read about it on the Internet or watch Movies, You will be well informed. Bush finished the job for his father. I dont not know what is the problem? Why we just cant get along? But this is the signs of the coming of my Father, the only thing, that is saviing Belize is some of us that is praying for our County, Thats why God’s do not destroy them as yet. (Read Matthew Chap 7) & life will be much easier. When judgement day come, Its will only be Me Myself & I standing in front of God Giving an account of my life. I think We all should take that statement to other who’s try to judge us. Let them know only You will, be the one standing in front of God Giveing an account of Your life. Time for us to clean up our hearts stop judge & be so nagative.
