Two busted for drug trafficking
A villager from Bullet Tree Falls, Cayo will be spending three years behind bars after pleading guilty to Drug Trafficking. Thirty year old Miguel Angel Mendez was nabbed around eleven Thursday morning by a police border patrol unit as he was exiting the administrative building at the Belize Western Border on his return from Melchor. When police searched Mendez, they discovered a black plastic bag containing almost half a pound of weed in his underwear. Magistrate Earl Jones ordered him to pay three thousand dollars by December thirtieth or in default spend three years in prison. But because Mendez had failed to pay a previous fine of five thousand dollars for a similar offence in July 2007, he was immediately sentenced to serve the time.
Meanwhile, in Guinea Grass Village in the Orange Walk District, an Anti-Drug Operation at a residence yielded another stash of weed. Around four-thirty on Thursday evening police say they searched the home of thirty-two year old Cheli Ramirez. Inside a sofa they found a third of a pound of cannabis in two separate stashes. Ramirez has since been charged with Drug Trafficking.
