Housing minister to play peacemaker between mayor and PM

Story PictureZenaida Moya Flowers, Belize City’s mayor has been under the radar since she faced twenty two counts of Uttering a False Document and two counts of Failure to Comply with City Council Regulations. The spin she pulled on the story was that she was being targeted by Prime Minister Barrow, through his “Minion” Patrick Tillett, who was installed as Financial Controller at the City Council. Moya Flowers said publically that she is not a puppet after hurling an insult at the P.M. after being criminally charged on October first. While she is considered to be a strong ally of Housing Minister Michael Finnegan, everyone knows he is also a long time friend and close confidante of the PM. Finnegan is also the uncle of Barrow’s son Shyne. Finnegan has made it public that he would try to play peacemaker between Barrow and Moya. After today’s house meeting on the hill, the P.M. said he would be willing to listen, but that’s all he would do.

Prime Minister Dean Barrow
“Look Finnegan is a senior leader of the party, a senior member of the Cabinet and, as you know, a great personal friend of mine. I understood him to say that he wants to speak with me and of course if that is right it is my duty to entertain him to countenance. I can tell you, that in terms of the subject I don’t know if talking to me will make much of a difference. But I’m saying that I am happy to entertain my friend and of course what the national party council did was the right thing. I feel very strongly that the D.P.P. acted very properly that the evidence warranted charges. I think the D.P.P. has made it clear that the law is to apply to all persons regardless of standing to big and small alike and that is my own position. So, as I said, I .look forward to friend and colleague but I don’t think it will make any difference.”

Jose Sanchez
“Has the DPP’ office indicated to you if any additional charges would be levied against Mayor Moya Flowers?”

Prime Minister Dean Barrow
“No, I only know I heard what she said publicly that there’s a feeling that investigation of the police had been hindered and there is perhaps now an opportunity for police to do additional digging.”
