Potential juror removed from list due to convictions
Also in the Supreme Court, a potential juror was struck off trial duties when it was discovered that he had previous convictions and a pending charge before the court. Twenty-seven year old Michael Herrera, who was selected last Friday as a juror in the case of George Matthews, charged with Attempted Murder, was removed from the jurors list today. Herrera failed to appear in the court of Justice Herbert Lord this past Monday, and Tuesday. Justice Lord dismissed him as a juror and a new jury of nine was selected to hear Mathews’ case. Instead Herrera appeared in the Magistrate Court where he was arraigned for the Possession of a Controlled Drug. He pleaded not guilty and he was offered bail of one thousand five hundred dollars. His case was adjourned for December eleventh. But because Herrera owed the court an outstanding fine of eight hundred dollars, he did not meet bail until Tuesday, after he paid a substantial portion of the fine.
