Everyone is catching the basketball fever as the national team heads to Santo Domingo. But there are other games that Belize will be competing in very soon. The Central American Games are not for another three years but the seven countries that make up the region are already coming together this weekend to prepare for the event.  Arriving in Belize today were some of the officials of the Olympic committees for Central America to conduct elections of a new executive committee and to review the principles of the associations of Central America.  But while that will be taking place two countries will be vying for the honor to host the games.  Those countries, Panama and Costa Rica, have the support of both their governments and the decision about who will be the next host country will be made this weekend.  News Five spoke with officials of Costa Rica, Honduras and Belize when they met in San Pedro today.

Henry Nunez, Pres., Costa Rican Olympic Committee

“Tomorrow we have the Executive Committee from the Central American Sports Organization and Saturday is the General Assembly, with the participation of the seven countries of Central America – that’s seven Olympic Committees. “
