Wanted Guatemalan busted in Belize
Local police made a major bust on Wednesday when they caught a Guatemalan national wanted by the Interpol for money laundering and drug trafficking charges. Fifty-three year Jose Anibal Hernandez Nova was surprised at the local hotel walking distance of a police station in the West Landivar area. He and four other alleged conspirators, including Guatemalan ex-minister Raul Velasquez, have been on the run since March of this year when the warrant was issued for their capture. Hernandez was arrested shortly after three o’clock but at the time police reportedly did not know they had caught the big fish. Police found in his room a Belize driver’s License Number 9496 dated November thirteenth, 2009 bearing his picture but in the name of Jose Luis Perez of a Mile twenty-four Old Northern Road address. As police combed his room, they also found his Guatemalan passport. In court this morning, Hernandez was unrepresented and pleaded guilty to possession of a false document. He asked for leniency and said he was sorry for what he had done. Magistrate Dorothy Flowers imposed a fine of one thousand dollars or in default a one year jail term. But up to news time, Hernandez had not yet paid the fine and it is not known if he will be handed over to the Guatemalan authorities.
Along with the ex-minister, and Pablo Alfredo Illescas Districts, Alfredo Berger Cordoba, and Carlos Rodolfo Ocampo Barrier, Henandez is named in the money laundering of some forty million quetzals, close to five million US dollars. A report in a Guatemalan newspaper, Siglo Veinte-Uno, of March 2010, says that parts of the proceeds were allegedly used to purchase a house which ended up as the residence of the ex-minister.
In an update: Hernandez was handed over to the Guatemalan Authorities at the Western Border.

let him have his day in court, pay his fine, do his time and send him packing back over the border, Belize is no safe haven for criminals.
He is a criminal. There are many more in belize dong mischief . Send him packing to he western border . A Belizean wound not stand a chance in Guatemala.
Bad Boy …. Bad Boy … What you gonna do?? WHAT YOU GONNA DO WHEN THEY COME FOR YOU????????
Funny how we can bust USA’s and Guatemala’s criminals but we cant bust our own..
Even the criminals know that the if they head to Belize they buy themselves a bunch of time before they are caught. That should tell the law inforcemnt people that they need to get tougher. Find out how he got his drivers license and deal with the person who issued it or do we have the ability to track that.
my question is what about the name of the driver licence being registered? will he be investigate of propably selling his licence to a guatemalan illegally or it’s over no investigation. how he got the licence should be investigated and the holders name should be charged for falsification of documents. try do that in mexico or guatemala and see if you geta 1,000.00 pesos or quetzales charge, this is rediculous he should face he’s crimes here and extradited to guatemala later.
Whoever helped him changed his identity is also a criminal, they all need to be locked up and then deported back to their country.
I must say,yes we need to arrest, detain and deport foreign criminal’s.but in this case,we need to keep this man in our custody, and use him as a pawn, because guatemala has a few people in their country, that has commited crime’s in belize, they refused to hand over,or assist in the investigation of those criminal’s,we also need to be handed over to the belize authorities.
see weh I tell you about them guates!!! They really take we fi pappyshow, imagine even a ex minister involve in this criminal activity and they run to belize fi hide, just like dem child abusers from USA who think Belize da one cave, weh they cud just come and hide, but hea what you aliens, you can run but you can’t hide.
How about the Belize drivers licence hmm?? Sombody dah city council know something, Yea maybe somebody dah city council hundred $$$$ richer today hmmm!
FISHY FISHY!!!!
I think that he should not be sent back to guatemala, but instead put in the BDF and labor for free since he want be criminal man.
Only a thousand dollars fine you must be out of your mine Dorothy Flowers. No wonder the crime situation in Belize keep getting worse. You would have gotten a bullet in your head in Guatemala for thesame crime lame Dorothy.
It’s sad to see one of men’s that i wanted to be like when i was a Military Police in Guatemala,in this situation, he was a good leader, i still don’t understand how he ended up like this, now i’m a U.S.A. citizen if i just could do something to help him out i won’t hesitate to do it, no matter what, i don’t !@##$%^& care what any of you will say, A la orden de usted mi teniente Nova, Kaibil
