Andy Palacio to be honoured at Altar of the Dead

Story PictureOn November first and second, Mexico celebrates the Day of the Dead, a traditional festivity that coincides with All Saints Day which symbolizes the return of the deceased to earth. As a part of that celebration, an exhibit to honour the dead is being organized by the Embassy of Mexico in collaboration with the Museum of Belize and the National Institute of Culture and History. Jorge Lopez Castro, Director of the Mexican Cultural Institute, says this year their annual Altar of the Dead will honour one of Belize’s recently departed musical icons.

Jorge Lopez Castro, Director, Mexican Cultural Institute
“The Altar of the Dead is a part of the celebration of the Day of the Dead in Mexico. It’s a big part of the celebrations. The people from Mexico made different things about the celebration. They prepare special foods, etcetera. At times it is said that to honour some people is to remember beloved people that are dead. In this case, the Embassy of Mexico wants to honour Andy Palacio.”

Jose Sanchez
“Why are you honouring Andy Palacio?”

Jorge Lopez Castro
“Andy was a very loved, very close friend of Mexico. We recall Andy Palacio’s presentation in Mexico many times. When the Watina tour started the first place was Mexico and he was very close with Mexico and we really miss him.”

The exhibit will be open from October thirty-first to November seventh between the hours of eight am and five pm at the House of Culture in Belize City.
