Englebert Reynolds freed of attempted murder
And in another case in the Supreme Court, this afternoon a jury found Englebert Reynolds not guilty of Attempted Murder. Reynolds was on trial for the June 2007 shooting of Ernest Sacasa. The victim testified that he was at Q Club on Queen Charlotte Street in Belize City when he accidentally collided into another man. When the man pulled out a thirty-eight revolver, Sacasa said he ran outside and spoke to a friend who promised to speak with the gunman to cool him down. But later that night the gunman, who Sacasa identified as Reynolds, approached him and shot him to the hip and wrist. The jury of five women and four men deliberated for about two and a half hours before coming back with their verdict. It was, however, not a unanimous showing with a split of seven to two. Reynolds, who was not represented by an attorney, chose to remain silent and did not call any witnesses. The case was prosecuted by Crown Counsel Trenia Young.
