Babysitter charged for death of toddler

In May of 2008 Ladyville resident, Danna Banner was taken before the Magistrate’s Court on a charge of Manslaughter after the death of a two year old toddler she was babysitting. The post mortem on Vernice Rodriguez Gonzalez certified that she died from head trauma due to a blow with a blunt object. But the case file was not completed in time for the trial against Banner and the charges were withdrawn. On the advice of the Director of Public Prosecutions, Cheryl-Lyn Vidal, the charge was reinstated against Banner. Banner took the baby to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital on the morning of Sunday May eighteenth and left her there without giving particulars to authorities. She claimed that the baby was having problems breathing. Vernice died that same afternoon. After the child’s death a neighbor told News Five that Banner had been the child’s babysitter for about a month prior to her death and that Vernice had frequently been heard crying for hours when in her care. Banner appeared today before Magistrate Aretha Ford and was granted bail in the sum of six thousand dollars, which she met. Back in May 2008, the child’s father, Hayedon Rodriguez, publicly called for a murder charge to be brought against the babysitter. This is what he said.

“As far as I concerned, dis da murder and I want capital charge. Dat da weh I want see. Dat da murder, nothing less than murder and I want wah murder charge. No manslaughter, no negligence; murder … no bail.”

“Exactly. Well, somebody—I noh know if dah she or dah I boyfriend but somebody have to pay for it. Ih noh matta who, but somebody have to pay for it.”

“When she informed you that your child was in the hospital what did she say and how did she inform you?”

“She didn’t inform me. She informed my girlfriend, told her that my daughter was only sick in the hospital but I had already gotten message from the police saying that my daughter was in critical condition. So she was trying to sugar coat it. That in itself should say something about this whole case. She was to tell me that nothing was wrong with my daughter and she know that she had just killed my daughter. Da mi di last thing I mi ever expect mi wah ever happen to me. But right now I can’t seh much because da neva something weh I mi think I wah eva have to di talk about.”
Banner’s case was adjourned until August twenty third.

How can someone be so cruel with a defenseless child? And how come she gets bail? Charge the magistrate with conspiracy!
How can a parent leave his child like that??……Parents stop blaming others and start taking responsibility for your children. The question should be ” Where were the parents????? People if you dont want kids then dont bring them into this world to suffer, we are living in a modern world with so much information……there is no excuse…..educate yourself…….
In regards to the lady……if you actually did this then I feel so sorry for you….what the hell were you thinking this was an innocent child……but what goes around comes around (Karma)….
take a look at this woman real good, you see nothing but a …, miserable, ignorant baby killer. If this person had done this to my child she would not be alive today.
She beat an innocent child to death, and has no remorse at all, sentence her to me, please.
I have two children….thank God i still have my parents alive to help take care of them while i am at work….out here its hard to trust ur children with other people…..so ppls who have thier parents/ familyu who helps with their children cherish them as we have sick ppl out here…..let her go to jail….just imagine the pain that little child had…do it right back to her…deh rite deh look like a monster!!!
look how fat and healthy she looks…..how would that baby look if she was alive????????? i guess we will never know! i do hope the law deal with her the correct way!!! The poor child did not even get a chance to live life the way she should…playing, going to school….etc.
