Venacio Mai convicted of abusing minor
A fifty year old man was found guilty of Carnal Knowledge in the Belmopan Supreme Court. Venacio Mai was accused of sexually abusing a fifteen year old minor in April 2008 while they both visited a woman in Bullet Tree Village. He was charged four months later, in August and around that time the child also found out that she was pregnant but later suffered a miscarriage. The victim, who is now seventeen years old, testified that she was about to leave the home of a friend she was visiting when Mai asked her to go buy for him at a nearby store. She said that when she went back inside to see what he wanted, Mai grabbed her by the hand, took her into a room and forced her. Mai denied her story, but the jury was not convinced and found him guilty. Sentencing occurred right away and in mitigation, no character witnesses were called. Mai, however, had no previous convictions and Justice Troadio Gonzalez imposed the minimum sentence of five years.
The current state of affairs of the Youth in Belize makes me incredibly sad. The last fortnight news is full of grim stories of children 0-18 years. The death of the young woman last month, sexual abuse of boys and girls, and physical abuse and murder of the baby girl by the hands of her child minder all highlight the desperate situation young women and children find themselves.
What does it say about our society? There will be those of you who explain these stories away by making misogynistic statements blaming the teen girls for whatever befalls them. By condemning the girls instead of single out these grown men (women) for their perverse behaviours you allow these perverts to carry out these abuses: paedophiles have carte blanche in a macho society.
Some of these children didn’t have their chance to let their voices be heard, but I commend the bravery of the children who recognise that they were being violated, and spoke out. We should also commend our judiciary system that is taking these cases seriously.
Again where is the rapist photo?
No one should have to go throught this, mai shout be shot to death for rape.
It is a good that she suffered a miscarriage and not bring a rapist child into her life, hope she gets some help for herself as well.

I am sick and tired of all those no-good, so call men in belize these days, they are the rats, the shame, and the weakness of that counrtry, they should be stopped at all cost.
If the men are not killing, stealing, raping or plotting they are hurting our children and women and if this act on our children does not make your soul ache that’s your problem, i have had enough of all that … going on with the belizean people.
We cannot accept this kind of violence anymore, ultimately, living our lives the way we want to should be up to us, not them.
