Within hours of the execution style murder of Giovanni Lauriano, another man was gunned down and it is believed that the two homicides are linked and gang related. Niki Pinkard was killed at the house of his girlfriend’s relatives on Jasmine Street in the same area where Lauriano grew up. News Five’s Isani Cayetano has coverage of Pinkard’s slaying.

Twenty-four year old Niki Pinkard had just parked the vehicle he was driving near the home of his girlfriend’s relatives on Jasmine Street when a lone gunman opened fire on him. His shooting death came a few hours after another murder involving a known street figure who had his roots in the Saint Martin’s Area. According to eyewitnesses, Biggs, as he was commonly known, had offered to take his girlfriend and her uncle to a nearby store to purchase liquor shortly before nine o’clock last night when upon returning he was shot multiple times at close range.

“I heard the gunshot and when I looked, that, I see the boy that got shot on the floor, on the ground. So I believe that the person who shot my brother-in-law, you know, probably, you know, probably was around seeing them doing whatever, going to the shop and whatever and then after that I guess the person probably came in our yard and faced my brother-in-law while he came out of the vehicle to help the other guy come out of the car, and open the door. And after that you know we just hear two gunshot, two shot firing and we see him on the ground and they tried to do C.P.R. on him cause you know he got shot from by the neck and I’m not sure if he get the other shot in his chest or anywhere else.”
When it was all said and done, Pinkard laid on the ground near the vehicle mortally wounded. Two bullets had penetrated the upper right side of his chest, his neck and left jaw. Despite attempting to resuscitate him, blood was gushing profusely from his neck. Several minutes later, a team of emergency medics carried him off on a stretcher to a waiting ambulance. But Pinkard would not survive the ordeal. Shortly after arriving at the K.H.M.H. he was pronounced dead. Some say he met his fate because he strayed onto enemy territory.

“He was spending the day here at our house. He is a relative of us right. He was our brother-in-law right and he was spending the day here laughing and joking and you know and after that suddenly in the night the shooting happened. We didn’t know, nobody didn’t even know that that was going to happen until it happened around eight, around that time.”

“Do you know if he had any kind of misunderstanding or beef with anyone in this particular neighborhood seeing as though he’s not from here?”

“Well actually no because he didn’t talk to us about his problem to the family. Probably he keep it to his self or maybe to his mom. Really we’re not close family, we’re just in-laws so he won’t tell us everything about his business what he’s doing out there.”
It is widely speculated that the murder of Niki Pinkard may have been an act of retaliation by a resident gang in the neighborhood. Sources say that Biggs was an affiliate of the George Street Gang, another south side group currently at war with its rivals. His killer, who fled the scene on bicycle, remains at large. No arrests have been made in either murders.
His mother says he was on the phone with her so he could not have killed anyone, someone must have retaliated against the wrong person. Another good man gunned down for no reason.

It must be something in the water, witnesses are blind & the murderers are all nearsighted yet capable of aiming well enough to kill. We cannot turn the country around if we do not face reality. Just because you do not like what the neighbors, the police & some of the people who come in contact with your children have to say does not mean that they dislike your children & are lying.
As a parent you have every right to be sad when your child dies but every time we swear for our children, we put another nail in their coffin. They cannot correct behavior they do not believe is wrong. It is our job to keep our feet in their backsides.

With the violence that is spiking in Belize we might want to call for help from the US for soldiers to assist. By the way great comparison too Earl… let me compare apples with oranges but since you mention it, 20-25 better than Juarez, 50 than Iraq and 60-70 than Afghanistan…. I am going to educate you here. Population of Iraq 30,711,152 Afghanistan 29,021,099, Juarez 1,512,354 now wait for this… BELIZE 307,899. The statics with daily murders in Belize that is reported, key word reported, based on population might not be a great comparison with these countries. I can say personally that Niki came from a good home with a hard-working MOTHER, what these youngster do when they become adult has nothing to do with their upbringing. Some just want to fit in with society. some succumbs to peer pressure and some just cant think for themselves. Deep condolences to the family of Niki Pinkard.
