Teller and boyfriend charged for Bank robbery
In an update to a report we carried in our newscast on Monday night, two persons were charged this morning for the robbery of the Belize Bank Branch in Corozal Town. Alex Arana, a twenty-nine year old truck driver of the Altamira area of Corozal Town was charged with various offences including Robbery, Aggravated Burglary, Conspiracy to Commit Robbery and Unlawful Imprisonment. His girlfriend, bank teller Vilma Guzman, also of Corozal Town, was charged with Robbery and Conspiracy to Commit Robbery. Both pleaded not guilty, Arana was remanded in custody while Guzman was offered bail of forty thousand dollars which she has not met. On Sunday night, Guzman along with another employee, Miriam Quan, went to the bank to replenish the ATM machine. They were lay-waited and two masked men demanded that the machine be opened and then made away with one hundred and sixteen thousand, nine hundred and thirty dollars in Guzman’s car. Arana and Jorge Rosado were apprehended within hours by the police and most of the monies were recovered, except for eight hundred and twenty dollars. Rosado and Quan were questioned and released.
