Belize’s Music Goodwill Ambassador featured on US magazine cover
Belize’s most famous deportee and rapper, Shyne Po, also known as Moses Michael Leviy, but formerly known as Jamal Barrow has been making some international headlines recently. According to MTV, he has rapped some very notable tunes churned out by Rihanna, Drake and Alicia Keys. Shyne is featured on the September cover of XXL magazine which will be on sale on August tenth. The XXL thirteenth anniversary cover shoot is a product of his recent photo shoot on the roof of Renaissance Towers in Belize City, where he lives. Along with the magazine cover, Shyne also released a freestyle video on the internet in which he is draped with a Belize flag while riding a bicycle through city streets and alleys. His Messiah album is incomplete but here’s a look at Shyne’s recent artistic work.

Shyne has recently been appointed as Belize’s Music Goodwill Ambassador.
Ambassador? Good Gawd what is becoming of my lovely Belize. This guy, rich or not, is nothing more than your typical gansta. Get real! The only reason this dude is calling Belize his home these days is because he cannot go back to the cocaine world of guns, pimps and thugs he left behind.
Ambassador? Try someone else. Even his egomaniacal cousin (Evan X) would be a better ambassador that the country could wear with pride.

Shyne May use bad language, but he is a great musician and better yet a good influence for ALL BELIZE. I belive he sets a good example in the way that hard work, and determination pay off big. It’s ashame how everyone here arguing about Shyne and not even giving props to the other Belizean Artists that are doing positive things in Belize Big up to man like Berne,Program’Indio and all the othe Belizean artist.

No one is saying that he is not known world wide. They type of Music does not reflect on our Belizean HERITAGE we should have an ambassador that can represent us he is a huge disrespect to what Andy Palacio stood for a Huge disrespect for what Mr. Peters and all the other musicians that comes from Belize we dont come from a rap music invironment that is exactly what is hurting our young black brothers. If he was trying so hard to stand for Belize then he would stand down and TELL his father he is not the one for this JOB we have more deserving and quallified persons to fill that POST… Lets not forget this was the same person that did not want to have anything to do with Belize and was trying to stay in the states.

P-DAWG: There are alot of people in Belize with great potential.But the reality is that not all these kids are going to get the oppertunity to reach their full potential.Unless they’ve got relatives in the US,Europe and othe developed countries that are willing to help them.Barrow don’t even have a musical institution in Belize.There isn’t anything for these kids to do.They don’t even want to sponsor the Belizean Basket ball team.
I am probably going to be controversial here, as always. However this person has been punished for his crime. He spent 10years in prison, and hopefully he’s rehabilitated and now on the right side of the law. As far I can see, he continues to be punished not only by the US government but also by Belizeans. As an artist of his calibre, he isn’t allowed to travel to do tours etc. in the US, and UK which really restricts him. Many of Belizeans have spent time in prison in the US, including the darling princess Marion Jones, do they get the same reception when they come home to Belize? I think not.
Therefore, I think that it is time to allow (Shyne) to be a part of his society, he’s got the right to do so, allow him freedom in his homeland. Stop living in the past and start looking forward to the future, I think many of the comments above are simply based on envy.
I had to google this chap today as I had no idea who he was. I’ve never heard of Shyne before, I have no special interest in rap music. I am a snow patrol kinda girl, exactly?:o)
I’ve always support and believe in fairness though. Some of you have even try to link him with his father’s Prime Ministerial role, which is unfair. He is a non-elected, non-governmental figure, just a member of society like yourself, perhaps with a bit more money. Clearly he’s a very talented man so just let him be.

Anybody can get a TITLE ONCE you’re in a political party, which means nothing if you don’t have the requisites for SUCH NAME. This guy had committed a crime serious enough that he was given 8 years in prison and got band from the US permanently basically, he is a criminal. If this guy had done the same thing in Belize would they have made him a musical ambassador of the City? Highly unlikely! He would have been recognized for his accomplishments and that would have been it Oh, I don’t hate him I just think picking a criminal to represent a country doesn’t send the right message to the Belize City’s youths.

The hate on this blog about Shyne is so thick, I could literally cut it with a knife if I wanted to. I also think it is hypocrital when we as parents invite all the morally degrading scenes via the TV,into the sanctuary of our homes, refuse to ‘checktize’ our wayward pickney, but is now acting ‘holier than thou’, because this man made some mistakes and is now making his paper.

There was crime before Shyne came to Belize , so do not act like he is the cause for crime in Belize.The bottom line people are just jealous to see a young black man doing good.He is not jacking anyone,he is not selling drugs.He is just making money from his God given talent.If you want to be mad at someone be mad at God He is the one who gave him that gift.One of the reason behind the hate is because his father is the PM.
