Harmonyville organizers on transparency in development

nigel petillo

Harmonyville, the community proposed by the Belize Grass Roots Movement Youth Empowerment Agency, is slowly inching forward but there are still plenty hurdles to cross. The development is located near Mile forty-one on the Western Highway and comprises one thousand three hundred and twenty acres. Recently, estimates revealed that it would cost about four hundred dollars per acre to survey. BIGYEA is trying to collect over two hundred and fifty thousand dollars from the applicants who are each to receive an acre of land. According to Nigel Petillo, BIGYEA’s President, the group wants to make sure that the process of selecting a surveyor is transparent.  That is why a discussion will be held on Sunday at ten a.m. All eight hundred applicants as well as surveyors are invited to attend.

Nigel Petillo, President, BGYEA, Harmonyville

“As we mention, last Sunday, we need everybody to come out; the general public. We’re inviting surveyors and we want to ask the different surveyors to come out—the licensed surveyors—and to get involved in this project and probably tender a bid. We want to make this bid public. We want to have all the money available by the end of August and have a public bidding, even if we can have people being recommended by the government, we want to have this transparent. Nobody have to question bout dis three hundred and twenty thousand dollars, the bid will be made public. We want to ask the general public and the recipients of a piece of land in Harmonyville the way forward, what’s the way forward, what’s their suggestions, what’s their idea. But it’s all about this big meeting Sunday. I’m asking the media to come out, everybody to come out; the ministers in the area to come out but especially, the surveyors. We want di surveyors dehn be wah part ah dis, si how wi could bid fi dis project yah and lets have the government intervene and make sure the money get channeled the right way. We noh want nobody di feel like wi di try play wid no money yah. We want to have the list made available of all those who have paid already and who no pay yet.”

The meeting will be held at mile forty-one on the Western Highway. If those persons that have been approved for land cannot come up with the survey cash, then others on the waiting list will be given a shot.

Transparency…was Petillo “transparent” in the distribution of the land? Wasnt there an issue that several of his relatives and in laws got land and even he himself already owns “a piece of swamp?”

The more I read about this organization it becomes clear to me that they are con artists. The grass roots population in belize really needs help but not they way they guys are doing it. They just found a piece of land and claimed it instead of going through the proper avenues. It is like we are pirates living in the 1500’s and just site a vast amount of land and just stake their claim. Next they tell citizens to go in and clear their piece. The government finally gives in and goes along with the program. When the list with names are reviewed a substantial amount of people are relatives of the guys that are spearheading this movement. What do a bunch of slackers know about property development? It is just another way for them to get rich quick. Things in Belize are getting worse everyday. My suggestion to them is do things the legitimate way and get a job like everyone else.

Let the harmoney ville pay for that. I don’t want to be a part of that so called development. I got no money for these type of people and their rootsville. It’s another propaganda game.

  7. lbice says:

WHY didn’t they have the surveyors submit a bid for the job before they started asking for FOUR HUNDRED DOLLARS ($400.00)?????????????? WHO WILL BE IN CHARGE OF THIS HARMONYVILLE. WILL IT BE THE GOVERNMENT OR WILL IT BE NIGEL PETILLO AND FRIENDS. WHO WILL BUILD THE STREETS, THE DRAINS, THE SEWER SYSTEM, THE WATER, THE GARBAGE, THE CEMETERY, ELECTRICITY, TELEPHONES, SCHOOLS, SECURITY……………………….AND THE LIST GOES ON AND ON AND ON. PEOPLE START ASKING THE RIGHT QUESTIONS. DON’T JUST GRAB A PIECE OF LAND BECAUSE IT IS THERE. ASK QUESTIONS. DO NOT GIVE AWAY YOUR MONEY UNTIL UNTIL YOU HAVE SATISFACTORY ANSWERS. EVERYTHING THEY SAY TO YOU HAVE THEM PUT IT IN WRITING FOR YOU. IF AND WHEN YOU PAY SOME MONEY TO ANYONE, KEEP YOU RECIEPT IN A SAFE PLACE. MAKE TWO OR THREE COPIES OF ALL DOCUMENTS AND KEEP THEM IN SEPARATE LOCATIONS.

    PEACE
