Education Minister says Cardona did not follow subsidy procedures

Orange Walk East Area Representative Marcel Cardona was ousted from Cabinet as Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture in 2009 and since then he has not been a happy camper with his party. Cardona is expecting a challenge by at least two contenders in his constituency and it is generally believed that he no longer has the ‘backative’ from the party’s hierarchy. This past Thursday Cardona organized a demonstration on the office of Deputy Prime Minister Gaspar Vega in Orange Walk. He led a throng of his vociferous supporters in protest because he alleges that Education Minister Patrick Faber plotted to divest subsidies that were initially set aside for Orange Walk East in order to increase the amount of monies being granted to Vega’s constituency. Today Faber told News Five that Cardona never requested the subsidies in writing. Faber went as far as saying that his ministry has been dragged into the middle of an ongoing political feud between the former minister and the Deputy P.M.

“I’m understanding that honorable Cardona may have some issues with the Deputy Prime Minister but to drag the Ministry of Education into the whole issue is unfair to the ministry. I mean, as I’ve said we give help to even the PUP so why would we spite a U.D.P. constituency or a constituency that is represented by the U.D.P. I have not had a single conversation with Marcel Cardona. He has not come to me to say “minister this is my list of people whom I wish to help.” My secretary has informed me that there has been somebody who came in to the office claiming to represent Mr. Cardona but as I’ve said we need an official word from former minister Cardona for us to be able to work with that. I received texts on my cell phone as well from some lady claiming to be part of his committee. Mr. Cardona is my colleague in the House of Representatives and he knows my number. He knows my office number, he can access me very readily. In fact when I received the text I tried to contact him. I tried to call him to no avail and it is a difficulty that we’ve had over some time trying to get in touch with honorable Cardona. You spoke of the three hundred dollar subsidy earlier and for us to get out that three hundred dollar subsidy the area representative signs on the ticket and we’ve given him the subsidy tickets for Orange Walk East as I’m understanding from our district manager and we have not been able to contact him. The district manager has been trying for weeks to call him. He does not answer the phone and he does not return our calls.”
Cardona has been at odds with his party since early 2009 when he was sent to the back bench following a public dispute with NICH President Dianne Haylock over a contract awarded to tourism investor David Gegg. We tried to contact him today but he was not taking calls.
What do they expect from the former Minister when he was treated like a boy by having Dianne Haylock acting as his Superior and then finally got kicked to the curb?. Keep up the nonsense idiots, maybe U.B.A.D should start thinking about recruiting candidates for the next coming election and hopefully we’ll have some changes. It can’t get any worse anyway!!!!.
Cardona is really doing his best to embarrass the UDP. He is a very quixotic man, tempermental and has bats in his bellfry.
He should walk away peacefully from the UDP since everyone here in Orange Walk knows he is a member of the PUP.
How he tricked the UDP in 2006 is a question no one can answer, but in these days of fake cops one is not surprised to hear of a fake poilitician
Melinda, if you ask me, Six a wan and half a dozen a di other. They are all phonys and selfish people. They are all into politricks and don’t give a damn about us the citizens of Belize. Mek dehn f— themselves with shame and scandal. Melinda, you can trust them if you want, but I’m pretty sure you will get disappointed once again. Maybe you guys in Orange Walk are receiving assistance from GOB to run your district the proper way. For the citizens of Orange Walk, I hope that is the case, but we in the south have to basically fend for ourselves whether P.U.P or U.D.P rein since Mr. Hatchet was a Hammer. Very interesting article about the way our southern Area Representatives have been treated in the past and is still happening today. I have been saying this for a very long time and thanks to Mr. Hyde for sharing the same views as myself, even though, I don’t see eye to eye with him on certain things. Unfortunately that’s the way the wrold turns. It’s ok to agree to disagree, but it’s not ok for bureaucratic politicians to take advantage of the poor and innocent. “God don’t like ugly”, shame and scandal in the political first family.

These are the reasons our little country is not moving ahead the way it should. We have leaders who do not do what they should but instead their focus is all about politics. The moment one does not tow the line subventions gets reduced and the only ones to suffer are the people; the poor people in their constituency.
I am sure if Cardona had fill out every form necessay he still would not have gotten the money because the excuse then would have been that they ran out of funds or some other creative way to say no. Him not filling out the necessar documents just made it easy for them to explain. Could it be that he did not fill out the forms because he saw it as an exercise in futility.
Could you guys just cut the crap and lead the country out of the mess it is in? By the way Mr and Ms politicians of Belize “decent is one of the best forms of patriotism”. Not everyone who saw yes to your proposals is your friend and not everyone who stands up to you is your enemy.

When u frustrate Cardona , you frustrate Those who voted for you. Common Sense. As much as i don’t like the PUP, they sure do know how to keep personal issue in the dark. YEars after they lost and still some secrets are still hidden. Cardona is an arrogant A** but he is representing Belizeans. And we Belizeans voted for all of u guys, so please lets be professional and serve the people, especially in these hard times. Come On Patrick and Cardona grow the hell up.
Well, probably Melinda is ignorant at many facts. Once you run in a party you are branded to be part of that party. How on earth can you be a PUP (according to the law) if you have been constitutionaly elected under the UNITED DEMOCRATIC PARTY to represent the people in a particular constituency? Get your fact straight and do the right thing and go and read your constitution. Its a pity many belizeans are about to be ignorant and stupid when they speak of something they dont know…
