Luoie Ganzie appeal dismissed

Story PictureMeanwhile, the Court of Appeal delivered its decision today in the case of reggae singer Louis Gentle a.k.a. “Louie Ganzie”. Ganzie was sentenced to life in prison after he was found guilty of the murder of his ex-common law wife Takeisha Sutherland. The appellate court upheld his conviction and his sentence was affirmed. The murder occurred on January third 2007 at Sutherland’s home on Raccoon Street where she was stabbed twenty-one times. Ganzie’s attorney, Darrel Bradley, presented several arguments to the Court: primarily, that the judge did not put the defense case clearly to the jury. Secondly, that the judge made comments that were prejudicial to the accused while the witness was testifying. He also argued that the prosecution failed to disclose that the defense witness spoke to the police on the day of the incident and lastly that the judge should have left the issue of provocation for the jury to decide. But the Appeals Court was not convinced and the reggae singer has been taken back to Hattieville prison where he will spend life behind bars. The respondent was represented by D.P.P. Cheryl-Lynn Branker-Taitt.
