Twenty-one year old Rafael Mencias is tonight in police custody after being apprehended at a bus terminal in Corozal Town around nine-thirty on Tuesday night. As we reported on Tuesday night, Mencias was wanted for the gruesome murder of Philip Moses Hall, a resident of Carolina Village. Hall had been stabbed numerous times before he was set on fire inside a small two storey ranch house situated a few hundred feet off the Northern Highway. Reports are that the two men had been socializing on Monday evening at a bar in the village and then headed to the ranch house. Less than an hour later, Mencias allegedly approached a custodian at the ranch, known as Hugo’s Stable, requesting assistance to dispose of Hall’s body. When the custodian failed to render aid Mencias is said to have lit the building on fire. Police and fire officials responded to the scene shortly before ten o’clock where they discovered the nude body, which was extensively burnt in the pelvic region. Upon his capture Mencias, who had been on the run since the night of the incident, admitted to Corozal police that he was in the process of handing himself in. Mencias has subsequently been charged with the murder of forty-one year old Philip Hall while an investigation into the arson remains ongoing. It is expected that he will be arraigned on Thursday morning.
Corozal, you need to share your civic spirit with Belize City. A caretaker chose not to help a murderer & made sure someone called the police & no one allowed this murderer to hide. Thanks for doing the right thing.
Yes, we the citizens of this country need to take more pride in the way our country is when it comes to crime. You know something that can take a dangerous person off the streets, just simply make an anonymous call to the police. Every family deserves justice when a loved one is taken from them. Criminals need to know that they are not safe to do what they want because people are afraid of them.

I can only imagine what Hall would have to done to young boys, children, he was sick.

When a gay sexual predator is killed my a young would be victim those gay rights people shout that its a hate crime and homophobia and that its murder.
When a straight sexual predator gets what is coming to him from his would be victim those same same people applaud the actions of the would be victim.
Plus whatever happened to innocent till proven guilty? I sure hope this young man is not intimidated by any prosecutor on an ego high into no silly plea deals.

I personally believe that this young man was molested or threaten sexually by the victim . It is never right to take a life but come on ppl y would only telling him he likes to see him made this young man go off and commit such a murder. I believe the older man got him drunk on purpose to take advantage of him sexually and that’s why he was killed is such a way!
Ignorance is bad. I am telling you, our people need to be educated on so many issues. This is why Belize is heading the direction it is going. You better pray that a victim does not fall in your family. These things you don’t wish upon your worst enemy. This young man has known Hall for a long time and knew he was gay. He chose to deal with this man and take him in his room, so we can’t judge a dead man. Who knows what happened in that room. If you were there, let us know, otherwise keep your dumb comments to yourself and teach your children that way to life, if you so feel it right. No one has the right to justify a life taken. You would not have done so, so quickly if it was your brother or son.
People love to comment without knowing the facts. This young man knew that Phillip was gay from a long time ago and he knew the guy liked him, if he was not interested why did he take him to his house, they had been drinking at a bar before that and they could have stayed at the bar. In any case, no one deserves to die like that no matter what their sexual orientation is. This is not the first time this young man tries to stab somebody, the only reason he was not arrested was because the other person chose not to report it. Sad to say but this young man is a danger to society and should be taken off the streets for good. And by the way I am speaking based on facts not hearsay!
