Customer intervenes and robbery escalates to shooting
There was other gun violence in the city; a robbery at a restaurant on Orange Street in Belize City almost turned fatal when a customer intervened in the situation. According to forty-three year old Chong Wu Tan, the owner of Olympic Restaurant, on Thursday night at seven-forty p.m. three men with bandanas over their faces, entered his restaurant. Two of them, armed with handguns, held him at gunpoint while the unarmed assailant jumped over the counter and took an undisclosed amount of cash. That was when one of the customers, forty-two year old Efrain Guzman intervened. Guzman, a security officer, got into a struggle with one of the robbers before he was shot several times. Guzman was injured on his abdomen and back. Five shells were recovered from the scene. Guzman remains in a critical condition at the K.H.M.H.
Dead witnesses make really bad witnesses. Mr. Guzman may be frustrated with the lawlessness but risking his life to save himself or the shopkeeper a few dollars was foolish. I wish him a speedy recovery.
Mr Guzman is a HERO for interveening and trying to stop these lawless losers who continue to terrorize the good citizens of Belize.
I really hope that the owners of the business take care of his medical bills and even the Government of Belize in honor of his bravery.
Wish that he recovers fully soon.
