Poverty alleviation project underway

Earlier in the newscast we told you that the new Kendall Bridge will take another two years to build. And Just in case you were wondering about the other promised project, the City’s Poverty Alleviation Project, well we also got an update about it today. The project was unveiled in March 2007 to rehabilitate the Southside of the City including housing, drainage and infrastructure.  According to the Minister of Works, Anthony “Boots” Martinez, if the works seemed to have slowed down, that’s  because it is about to enter a new phase, which will entail infrastructural work.

Anthony “Boots” Martinez, Ministry of Works

“There is a portion coming up in the second portion to continue the home repairs but the major portion is completed. There’s only a small portion in the second phase of the loan to continue with home repairs and renovation. But the main component to the second phase is the infrastructure; the streets and the drainage for Belize City.”

Marion Ali

“And there’s a phase three right.”

Anthony “Boots” Martinez

“There is a phase three right. Phase three won’t come until about three years from now.”

Poverty is no excuse for the lawless behaviour of our society. Belizean people need to stop expect Minister and other people to sorry for them just because they poor. If you know you poor….try get an education….try tek yourself out of poverty by improving your mind. Many poor people raise their kids to be disciplined productive citizeans and they hold their heads up high knowing and appreciating that they came from poverty. Belizean, especially those poor ones, need to stop watch america and lust after material things. Our society has lost touch of what their priority in life are……. Its not namebrand anything……..its being respectful and appreciative of the little you have. Live within your means because no-body, no government is responsible for providing you with a house, or paying your bills or sending your numerous children to school…….its your responsiblity. Poverty is no excuse!
