What’s happening in Belize for the long weekend?
It’s a long weekend in celebration of Pan American Day, and if you will stay put in the Jewel, there are various events that can provide you with wholesome entertainment. Safiyyah has the run down.
Hey, it’s your girl Safiyyah and this is what’s happening Belize. This weekend will be a long one and there are plenty of fun things for you and your family to do.
On Saturday night the Miss U-RU-MEI pageant will be held inside the Holy Redeemer Parish Hall. This pageant is not like the typical pageant because all the contestants are over forty, with to eldest being fifty-seven years old. The Miss U-RU-MEI pageant is being held as a part of the celebration for the upcoming nineteenth of November. The five contestants will be performing traditional Garifuna dances as a part of the competition. Tickets are ten dollars for adults and five dollars for children. The show starts at seven p.m.
This Sunday is the second annual Benguche park fest down south. This park fest will feature artist like Supa G, New Rebels, Chico Ramos and Reckless to name a few. This is definitely a fun filled family event that will run all day long. There will be food and drinks on sale and enough DJs to entertain you in between the performers. So if you can check out the Benguche park fest on Sunday.
Also on Sunday in Lordsbank, there will be a rural Male Softball competition where, Rancho will be playing against St. Pauls and Lordsbank will be playing against Double Head Cabbage. The entrance to the games is free and there will be lots of food and drinks on sale. So take out your entire family this Sunday and enjoy a live soft ball game.
There will also be cycling this Sunday to enjoy. The fourth annual Orange Walk By-Pass cycling criterium will be held for everyone in that area to view and enjoy. There will be plenty of prizes to go around. There will be prizes for tiny mites, junior racers and others like Master Rider, and Elite under twenty-three rider. And this weekend Old Belize they will be having two days of fun filled events called Monster Family Beach Bash. On Sunday they will be having boat rides, greasy pole, sausage eating contest and water balloon toss to name a few and on Monday the fun continues with Melon Eating and swimming contests. This is all happening on Cucumber Beach this Sunday and Monday at Old Belize. The cost is five dollars for children and ten dollars for adults.
If you are an art lover then you have two weeks to go check out the works of renowned artist, Richard holder, displayed at the Mexican Cultural Institute. This exhibit entitled Project Poverty has a unique method of displaying the way in which many Belizeans are living their lives today. The entrance to the exhibit is free and is being brought to you in collaboration with the Life Line Foundation.
Next week Thursday in Belmopan, all you basketball fans should look out for the opening night on their basketball season, which will feature a game of UB Jaguars Versus B.N.E. Energy. Things kick off at eight p.m. at the University of Belize Gymnasium. So mark that down for next Thursday.
