Annual Eder Alamilla Summer Camp brings artistry to kids

He died at the age of twenty two, and his death has been shrouded in mystery and unanswered questions for the family, but they are not about to put his memory to rest.  Today Eder Alamilla’s dream of helping children to discover their hidden artistic ability, lives on through his family who has held annual art camps in his honor.  This year the camp at the Lion’s building on Princess Margaret Drive featured the works of sixty primary school children who used only recyclable material to create art.

Tanya Alamilla Mahler, sister of Eder Alamilla

“We did bamboos, we did rain sticks, we did drums out of the cans of the big baked beans, we did maracas, we did bookmarks.  In memory of Eder I’m doing this just to keep kids off the street.  That’s what he always wanted to do, to keep them busy, to keep them doing art because that’s what his love was, art.  So I’m trying just to keep his memory alive.”

“You’re convinced that hw was murdered but the police report said it was a suicide.  What makes you think it was a murder?”
Tanya Alamilla Mahler

“He had much to live for. My daughter’s birthday was the day after, a family member wedding was the day of the murder, so he had a lot to live for, so we the family believe that he was murdered, because he wasn’t that kind of person.”
