Anglican Diocese Synod opens October 19th
The Anglican Diocese is turning one hundred and twenty-five years old and has been in Belize for a longer period, two hundred and thirty-two years. Every two years the Diocese meets in Synod and preparations are well underway for the forty-fifth Biennial Synod under the theme “Come Ye Thankful People Come”. The Synod is the highest authority in the Anglican Church and comprises a body of clergy, lay-readers and administrators to take critical decisions on the future of the Diocese. The Synod is scheduled to run from the nineteenth to the twenty-second October. Head of the local Diocese Bishop Phillip Wright says the theme is fitting and reflective of the history of the Diocese.
Rt. Rev. Philip Wright, Bishop, Anglican Diocese of Belize
“We’re going to focus on five areas: one is ministry, one is the youth, one is social outreach and one is fellowship; pretty much encompassing the life of the church. And all of those, of course, will be somewhat interjected into a fifth group which is finance and you know you can’t get very far without talking money at some point. So looking at those five areas, they pretty much spell out the general direction that we will hopefully go, not only in the next two years, but well beyond that. One of the main features of the synod is the cluster groups where the delegates will be divided into five clusters looking at those same five areas and hopefully we’ll come out with some concrete plans and steps.”
The event will start with an opening church service of the Synod on Sunday, October nineteenth at the City Centre where students, church ministers and the countrywide flock will convene.
