Constable Lawrence Jones is Officer of the Month
They did not get medals but they were recognized with special awards as the Police Department’s Belize District Officer of the Month Award programme came back on stream. The programme seeks to single out those junior officers who go beyond the call of duty to make a difference in the community. The programme’s revitalization started with a bang today with the recognition of various deserving officers. The ceremony took place at the Belize City Police Headquarters on Raccoon Street and Deputy Officer Commanding of the C.I.B., Senior Superintendent Robert Mariano says it serves as a good morale booster for the force.
Sr. Supt. Robert Mariano, Deputy O.C., C.I.B.
“This programme was in place some time before but it was since we took over we noticed that the programme was not in place. Myself and Mr. Henderson, again we discussed it and we agreed to start the programme and again consistency is important. Since it starts this month we want to make sure that it stays at least for the rest of our stay here in the Belize District. We are asking business people to get involve and to contribute generously once a month towards this programme.”

“How seriously do the officers take this? Is it a great morale booster?”
Sr. Supt. Robert Mariano
“Well, it is as a matter of fact. Since we have started discussing the programme we have heard a lot of police officers saying things about challenging other officers to ensure that for the next month they will be awarded. So it is clear that this will help boost up the police officers to work harder to get that award.”

“And the award is?”
Sr. Supt. Robert Mariano
“Well, for the month in relation to the award, we give them a certificate of commendation, they get a gift. That is for this month but hopefully for next month we want to give a monetary gift as well. so they will be getting at least a hundred dollars gift and a certificate of commendation.”
Mayor Zenaida Moya handed out the awards to Constable Lawrence Jones, who was selected Officer of the Month and thirteen other officers and civilian staff were also recognized. During the ceremony, the Belize Bank donated two computers to the Department’s Scenes of Crime Unit.
